Where Were You in 1984?
December 16th 2010 05:23
Do you remember 1984?
OK, so there's some obscure literary piece by the same name which most everyones mind seems to turn when that year is mentioned - but I'm talking the year 1984 - so are we now all on the same page?
It was a year we say Indian Prime minister Indria Ghandi assassinated
hundreds died from the effects of toxic gases which leak from the Bhopal Union Carbide Factory and the UK and China agreed that Hong Kong would revert to China in 1997.
Closer to home, gang warfare in Sydney breaks out during the "Milperra Massacre" leaving seven dead and The Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles while the Winter Olympic Games are held in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia
We hear about the Aids Virus and its identifications by a French Immunologist and the first Apple Macintosh goes on sale.
Sony and Philips introduce the first commercial CD Players while the 3 1/2" computer disk is developed.
The Space Shuttle Discovery has its maiden voyage and the MTV Video Music Awards kick off.
Britain and Ireland's top pop musicians gather in a Notting Hill studio to form Band Aid order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia and Michael Jackson wins unprecedented acclaim for his Album Thriller.
Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins and The Karate Kid are among a host of movies which grace (or disgrace) our screens while Phl Collins, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Wham and Ultravox are heard through our stereo speakers.
We're watching Magnum, P.I., Dynasty, Falcon Crest, Cheers and Knight Rider and Bob Hawke is our beloved Prime Minister.
But what were you doing? What do you remember of 1984? Fond memories or just another year in your life?

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
that is amazing, had no idea ll that was happening in `1984....then again, I was still enjoying all the benefits and hazards of a personal chemical fog!
I was...I think..working on Mad Max Beyond Thunder Dome, then Emo Ruo, another Aussie flick.
cheers
