What Defines the 70s?
July 27th 2010 07:34
When I think of what symbolises the 70's for me, I think of two entirely different subcultures.
The first is the early 70s - which was still a melting pot of psychedelic lifestyles, hippies, tangerine dreams and a mish mash of fads, music and social unheavals.
The second is the latter part of the 70's when the world become absorbed with bright lights, disco, some even more bizarre fads and a whole lot of very forgettable fashion, hairstyles and one hit wonders.
Then there's the sensory.
From some farily pugnant incense through to Brut aftershave, lipgloss of every conceivable flavour to green apple shampoo - they all made an appearance.
And who could forget the culinary delights?
Fondu parties, Cinzano, Aerosol Cheese, Shake and Bake, Burger Rings?
Oh - and should I toss in streaking, CB radios, mood rings and safari suits?
The list is endless as far as what really defines the 70s in my mind at least - but what defines it in yours?

Perhaps you were there - just in another life. You pretty well nailed the late 60s and early 70s - in my mind at least.

Throw in the Bus Stop, The Car Wash and The Nutbush, a little Joe Tex, Love Boat, Grease and The Bee Gees and we're starting to get a sad - but true picture.
