Are Facebook Friends Just Postage Stamps?
February 2nd 2011 21:41
If you're like me, you keep your Facebook friends relatively close.
Most I've known since school, some are family, some sporting connections others are people I trust and who have proven themselves at some level over the recent future.
But having just gone in and checked out the number of people who count 300, 400, up to 600 so-called associates 'friends' the question has to be asked . . .
I mean, the modern day pop culture phenomena known as Facebook is the super nova of stars when it comes the the communication era - but how many of these so-called friends would (or could) sit down opposite one another and engage in garden variety conversation at a barbecue or social environment such as a pub or in your own home?
Is the purpose of having 300, 400-whatever friends simply some trying to send a signal that 'hey I'm popular' and by stealth attract even more followers to their little harem?
Or perhaps is it purely the self-absorbed nature of Facebook that in spite of what could be labelled quite spurious links that some of its disciples don't really give a damn and simply collect names and faces in much the same fashion as some people collect postage stamps.
For mine, I rate quality over quantity and would be (and have done) comfortable to have each and every one of my FB to my home or simply chat over the phone for that matter.
I would hazard to guess that there are far too many stamp collectors out there . . .

I also have on my blogs the link to my FB so you can follow my posts that way if it helps.
Not really fussed about the popularity and a good 200 of them I have no idea who they are but know we have some form of connection.
