Have Aliens Visited Earth?
October 31st 2007 21:30
Ended up watching a an old doco last night on the virtues of the whole Erih von Däniken book - Chariots of The Gods and his hypothesis that many ancient civilizations' technologies and religion were given to them by space travellers who were welcomed as gods.
The evidence (as presented by those who argued in the affirmative) was of course, nothing less than compelliing.
Equally as adament was the team dedictated to delivering their case, that the whole 'Have We Been Visited by Aliens" argument was nothing more than a beat up and contrived.
Since then - much of von Däniken's original book has either been discredited or explained - however just as much hasn't or can't.
So - which side of the fence to you sit?
Is Roswell just urban scuttlebutt?
Do aliens exist and have they visited our fair shores?

I think they are probably out there somewhere in another solar system, but I don't reckon they've been honing in on Earth. They are probably no more advanced than us in space travel. By the time we work out how to get to each other there'll probably be another Big Bang and we'll have to work our way up from microorganisms again.
Maybe.

The circle of life.
The whole concept of 'alien life' is exciting however I suspect it also poses a real threat to aspects of our religious and scientific communities.

I loved the book Chariots of the Gods as a work of a fertile imagination when I was a kid. As Ive got older and observed faith, philosophies and religion Ive found it more compelling than just a work of fiction.
It is certainly an interesting concept that seems as credible as any other non scientific truth especially when t the Mayan and Inca culture.
I wouldn't say I believe aliens have been here because to say yes would be to credit that the universe was built with humans as its highest order, a bit too egocentric even for me.

Do Aliens Exist?
No conclusive evidence either way.
Absense of evidence does not mean evidence of absense.
They could plausibly exist and because of the size of space we may never meet.
Have they visited Earth?
This should be asked as: Is there any plausible reason to believe that they have visited Earth?
Conspiracy theories are not evidence in themselves, and having read Chariots of the Gods years ago I would only conclude that it is science fiction posing as theoretical science.
All genuine theoretical science is subjected to a trashing that goes through each claim step by step and tries to validate them. Theorietical science is ruthless with incorrect notions and even Fred Hoyle has been critiqued for his opposition to Big Bang.
To accept that we have or are being visted requires many leaps of plausibility that means most of the laws of physics are not merely iincomplete but just dead wrong. Also the feasibility of sending ships across space to an unknown is implausible when radio waves travel just as fast and cost nothing.
Finally to say that the scientific establishment is threatened by the concept of alien visitors is in direct contrast to what crazy nations these scientist do take seriously.
There is a saying in Physics "I know your theory sounds crazy but I not sure that it is crazy enough to be true," I think this was refering to the Super String Theory. Parrallel Universes, Mini Black Holes, Gravity Waves and Magic Circles sound a lot crazier then alien space craft.

Remember being transfixed by the film when it first came out when I was a kid. The whole thing (or so I recall) sent as big a shockwave through the cinema loving public and those who probably read the book - first written back in 68.
The Mayan's and Inca stories are certainly compelling reading though.
Always a pleasure champ.

Unfortunately being an evolutionary creature (or so it would appear) we're at the stage in our development where (similar to a dolphin being recognised as an intelligent mammal) it will never hope to understand physics.
Bottom line - we can't conceptualise or comprehend what we ca't conceptualise or comprehend - yet.
Thanks for your detailed and insightful analysis of such a raw question.
Cheers

Older civilizations were not full or morons, creative people back then existed much like creative people exist now.

well, having witnessed, over 27 years, five incidents of craft that did not, in either appearance or behaviour, resemble any known aircraft system that I have seen or heard described, nor any intended to be built by NASA, (and yes through previous work I was in contact with their library), I would have to conclude either; I, like tens of thousands of people around the world, witnessed a highly classified flying system protected by our government, or, we have visitors.
Many people who have spent years observing and analysing these events suspect "they" have been here all along, it is referred to as co-evolution.
I would not know the truth of that matter.
However, I have spoken to others who hold responsible jobs, who could not be insane because of the nature of those jobs, well not employed for long if they were crazy, and they are convinced the public has been led astray on the matter, and purposely, speculation for the reasons are many and varied it seems.
Two of my personal sightings were very close range, each of those with another corroberating witness. Seeing an extremely large mirror silver bodied craft, at 5pm at low altitude, slowly travelling towards the setting sun, it reflecting in its underbelly and the craft being silent...and HUGE...shaped like a triangle and then another at 11pm (these two sightings four years apart) which was circular, with a very bright disco light type system flashing vividly on top, crossing a flight path, which was entered by a Qantas jet one minute later to land, and the craft being silent, yet one kilometer away, would suggest SOMETHING is going on in our skies that the public is not being advised of.
Some people desperately need to not believe...for whatever their personal reasons, and that is fine by me.
However, once you have seen one, you NEVER forget it!!!!!

P.S. Of course one could also check out some of the film an astronaut shot, video he took aboard the shuttle.....and then there is the UFO appearances in the skies of Mexico, over a three year period, where a UFO, for example, would sit for two hours in broad daylight above a city, at low altitude and easily discernable in shape and filmed by hundreds of people, even the TV news reported it, as it was too obvious to ignore, yet, our broadcasters remained silent on the matter!

What can I say?
You are a man of deep premise, humour, insight and of course your musings are good reason to everyday to simply get up and log on.
The whole UFO thing is indeed a topic for the speculative - and like most things in life which cannot be proved or debunked, there will always be those who pooh pooh the notion, those who are firm believers and those who (for whatever reason) will always simply hedge their bets.

I'm a bit undecided, but if pushed on this one...um... I'd probably have to side with the Yes's.. because there is that time in India - high up in the Himalaya's that we saw something that didn't resemble anything 'human' ...was it military or alien? ...well... we don't talk about it too much ...
