Animal Heroes Of The Screen

September 23rd 2009 22:17
Old Yeller
Remember Disney's Old Yeller?

How About Babe, Lassie or Black Beauty?

Maybe King Kong or even CJ the Orangutan.

No prizes for guessing what all of the above have in common . . .

From Mr Ed the Talking Horse thru to Flipper the Dolphin and Skippy the Bush Kangaroo - the managery of animals that have graced both the big and small screen flies in the face of the old adage never to work with children or animals.

But who have been our favourites and who deserves special mention?

Did Benji tug at your hearstrings?

Were Toto and Rin Tin Tin really related?

Was Clarence the Crossed Eyed Lion and Gentle Ben really all that wild?

And how about Cheeta from the Tarzan movies?

Who have I missed?

Love 'em all
...and...
- 'Boomer' - a series about a stray dog's adventures. Think it was in the 80s...?

- 'Dog' - the dog in 'Petticoat Junction'. I had never seen that series until the other day! Anyway, Dog was smart and (very) cute on 'Petticoat Junction'. Looks like he also played 'Benji', (here). I didn't know that.

Really?

Nice piece of trivia about Benji, Lara - must keep that one in my back pocket for later.

Dog errrrr Benji must've been pretty old though - given Pettycoat Junction was done around 1964-5.

Speaking about dogs - how about The Littlest Hobo TV series - or perhaps that's just an 'old person's' memory

Stay well

Haven't heard of. That's just me though...
Gees...a lot of animal stars in those days!

And where are most of those wonderful old stars today?
The ones that are still alive? What about Benji? and some of the newer ones, how are they doing, are they living off the income they made for in the lap of luxury? Some yeah, some not so much. The chimp of the the Tarsan films is still alive and living in a rescue because he got too hard to handle.

I love those critters, they made thngs fun, entertaining and all around great.

How about Willy from Free Willy - as many fur seals as he could eat from his hideaway in the West Indies perhaps?

Or did Cheeta from Tarzan shack up with Judy the chimp from Dakari and live a reclusive life in Switzerland . . .

Oh the tales we could tell . . .

Of course - Turner and Hooch along with Belushi and K9 - how could I forget those two.

Surface however means nought to me - I'll have to Google that baby.

Big slobbery old Hooch. He had an endearing quality and proved himself in the line of fire - huh!

Mr. Nice Guy, is the dog from Cartoon count as the animal heroes as well? If it did, then the smart and talented Gromit from "Wallace and Gromit" is getting my vote here!

Nice get . . .

Haven't been too many cat tales come to think of it - perhaps the most famous being Elsa the lion from Born Free . . .

Wonder why?

Beethoven & Family

Semper Fi (Movie, For the Love of a Dog)

Silver (Lone Ranger's horse)

Scout (Tonto's Horse)

Piewacket (Bell, book & Candle Cat)

Morris the Cat

I just couldn't resist adding a few more critters.

*LOL* I like that thought about Judy and Cheeta!

From the looks of that opening, thank God we never had "Skippy" over here!!!!!

How about Bear from "BJ and the Bear?" And for trivia, who knows why a monkey was called Bear?

What about the Teenage Mutant Turtles or do they count as animated?
