One of the world's most vexing questions!

April 17th 2010 07:10
ANZAC Biscuits
Hard or soft people?
The existence of UFO's will divide any randomly selected group of people.

So to will who shot JFK!

But for a truly vexing, truly Aussie ballbreaker, I put this simple question to the jury . . .

Well, it is a vexing question, as is which one came first?
When a young lad, L liked them hard, but now, not wishing to break any teeth, I prefer softer ones!

delicious, the peanuts, yum!

Peanuts Fog?

ANZAC biscuits with peanuts?

Now there's a new twist on a classic piece of Australiana!

yes it is MNG,
the mother of my best pal as a youngen made them, fabulous whole peanuts embedded, apparantly, (as Nina explained to me at the time) the biscuits sent to the front by women varied a lot, many putting in an interesting addition, but I think they all had to be solid little bricks to withstand the travel.

Hard around the edge and soft in the middle. I just posted the recipe and its history on my food blog at Rawfish.

yeah, I saw your post Rawfish,

I didn't comment because you didn't link back to MNG's post here, which predated yours, and obviously inspired you to tell your own story, which is fine, but you should have, at the very least, acknowledged MNG's post as the inspiration, and put in a link to here, where you have made sure to self promote!

Just basic courtesy, as I see it.

cheers

What the hell are you talking about Fog?
This site poses a question - I've got an answer.
The impending ANZAC Day on the 25th of April is my inspiration.
Who do you think you are? My bitch?

SOFT SOFT SOFT SOFT. And I hope I am not spamming but if you want a recipe from my uber cool 8yr old Master Chef neighbor - suss it HERE We had a very fun day last weekend making them. All 4 of us were in agreement on the soft part.

Knew there were a few variations but never knew whole peanuts were part and parcel.

Don't want to bastardise the original recipe too much (Jason has a wonderful version on his site) but might try a few crushed nuts and see how it goes.

Cheers

Fog/Glen

Gentlemen, gentlemen.

I appreciate the sentiment Fog and yes, I guess as a rule when ever I glean inspiration from other Orblers I most certainly acknowledge and link but it's a matter of personal discretion.

In my experience - extending the courtesy - usually comes back five-fold later and certainly makes more friends through the network.

Checked out the recipe old boy. Nice pics to accompany the post as well. And a fitting way to finish your piece as well.

Lest we forget.

Thanks MNG - the recipe I have is the one they teach to Australian primary school students - they all get a small laminated card with the recipe on one side and the history on the other - it was odd. Finn knew more about the history of the biscuit than I did....

The Rawfish response is telling...
whenever someone resorts to borish low brow abuse, you know that, either, they lack the wit and acumen for repartee, and/or they are feeling scolded and guilty.

Being a gentleman, I am prepared to admit, that Rawfish MAY have decided to do a similar post, to MNG's here, if so, I apologise for my presumption.

However, it just does not look that way when you see his post appearing right after MNGs, a few hours later.

cheers

What are you talking about Fog? My post appears a few hours before MNG's.
I purchased the ingredients on 15th April and made the Anzac biscuits on the 16th, photgraphing each step. That night I loaded the photos from the camera to the computer.
On the 17th I completed the text and uploaded the post at 05.39 GMT. I discovered this post posing a question the next day and commented immediately.
If channel 9 runs a story on Anzac biscuits will you accuse them of stealing inspiration or expect the to acknowledge an Orble post that appeared earlier than their story? Of course not.
And here's a witty rejoinder for you. I have located your blogs and will waste no time reading them!

my my Rawfish,
with "wit" like that you'd starve to death as a comic!
And as for your blog comment, I don't give a fig what you think. And as for your own attempts; I did check out your twaddle, ages ago, I don't need to say why I haven't been back!

cheers MNG,
hey, this is getting a bit like last year isn't it? tee hee!
