Classic Arcade Games
April 19th 2010 07:16
Once upon a time when you walked into an amusement arcade, you had the choice of row upon row of pinball machines, a few shoot-em up or sink-em type arcade machines and a smattering of novelty games such as an abridged ten-pin strike machine.
Outside the wonderment of the noise (and smell) over the years things changed.
Suddenly games like Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger and the classic Space Invaders starting replacing the pinball machine in droves.
Galaga, Asteroids, Wolfenstein and plethora of others soon followed - and the floodgate of new era arcade games had opened - relegating many the old favourites to hoc shops auction sites.
Today, everything from dance machines to Ku Fu Ball reside in a diminishing number of arcade halls - as a new generation lays claim to its own classics.
But of those 'veterans', those games which lead the charge - be it 'Pong', Fooz Ball, Tetris or even the classics such as the 'pinny' - what was your favourite machine or game?

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
Pub Pong, of course shall never lose its ultimate place at the temple of electronic games, just like its successor, Space Invaders, which I also loved.
Both so groovily designed, set face up in a table top arrangement, making playing and getting drunk so much easier and comfortable.
Pinnies, of course, in all their forms, from mechanicals to the electronics..
The gopher machine, where you had to whack them with a paddle as they poked their little noggins up through the holes...I think that was it...I admit to being "excessively tired" when I played it once at about 3am....
air hockey, that damn disc could hurt too.
the soccer one with the rods and fellas stuck to them.
The cabinet fortune teller, the electric shocker machine, the strength tester which was a handle grip you had to squeeze...has to be many others but can't remember them, time for a rest I think.
cheers
