The 10 Best Movies from the 60s
July 11th 2011 02:38
Amazing how time flies the older you get!
Seems like only yesterday my folks took me to see Born Free, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Pink Panther - but I digress!
The reason for a touch of sentiment lies with a conversation I had with a few friends on the weekend about some of the great movies from the 60s - what rated and what didn't.
Some, like Mary Poppins were pretty much a given, but some such as My Night At Maud's came completely from left field.
Now I'm no critic, and my knowledge of all thing cinema is based purely around what I like and have had a fondness for - so don't shoot the piano player when I list my personal favs - heaven forbid if we don't also have to include a couple of comfort films in a list.
So in no particular order my top 10 movies from the 60s are as follows:
2001: A Space Odyssey, Psycho, Midnight Cowboy, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Easy Rider, The Sound of Music, The Hustler, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Great Escape, Lawrence of Arabia.
Folks?

In place of those three I'd put Night of the Living Dead, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and Cul-de-Sac.

As I say - I'm no expert - just a ham n' egger. Have to admit that my selection of The Sound of Music was tainted - following umpteen viewings by MNG's offspring during their formative years.
I felt compelled . . .
Cheers
