What Was Your Best Of For 2010?

On the film front - it was hardly an epic 12 months when you consider the hoopla that Robin Hood, Sex And the City II, Toy Story 3, Twilight 3 Eclipse and Eat, Pray Love created yet there was Inception and Social Network which helped lift this year's offering off the mat of mediocrity.
Then there's the music world - hmmm, where do I start?
To say that the death nell of the CD was sounded in 2010 is probably a little too obvious, but what is patently clear is that artists did start falling into two distinct camps. Those like Michael Buble, U2 and Pink who continued to tour and rack up millions in sales and those like Lady Ga Ga, Usher and Bruno Mars who prefer to make their living from predominantly digital sales.
It's hard to argue though that when Ga Ga (whose Bad Romance hit had 315 million views - yes MILLION on YouTube) that CD's are going the way of vinyl and cassettes alot quicker than we all probably imagined.
Still, some familar faces came to the table with reasonable offerings for the masses in 2010 with Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie', 'OMG' courtesy Usher and 'Rude Boy' from Rihanna.
But universally critics are pointing to Katy Perry and hip-hop star Snoop Dogg with the Prince-sounding '80s guitar beats and summer-ready lyrics:
"California girls / We're unforgettable / Daisy dukes, bikinis on top / Sun kissed skin, so hot, will melt your popsicle . . . "
On the news front we of course had the devastation of the Haiti earthquake, the BP oil rig exploding off the Louisiana gulf coast and the rescue of the Chiean miners.
There was of course other notables including the recent Wikileaks fiasco, the ash clouds from Iceland, the Pakistani floods and locally the dumping of our Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd.
And then there was the idiot box.
The small screen where reality TV was still are strong (and ridiculous) as ever - something we can all only hope will start to subside in 2011.
Unfortunately not too much came out of the year that was with shows like The Vampire Diaries being one of the few to offer new light on an otherwise struggling medium which saw programs such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians score big time with audiences around the globe.
The usual suspect rated their collective heads off of course with Masterchef leading the charge and the X-Factor somehow still pulling in the ratings.
Big Bang Theory, United States of Tara and Two and a Half Men along with fringe dwellers such as NCIS, The Mentalist, How I Met Your Mothers and Glee helped round out what was frankly a disappointing 12 months.
So folks - you've had 12 months of music, television, movies and news to digest - some of it good, some vin ordinaire - but what rated in your world?

Your post made me think, and I don't think there's a whole lot standing out for me, which is sad, since it was the year I turned 30.
LOST ended, Flash Forward got axed- both causing me great distress....
LOVED SATC2 and LOVE Madame GaGa but apart from that....not a lot.
Didn't get United Crap of Tara, at all. Didn't watch Avatar (was that 2010?) as I refuse to watch movies about blue people and I thought 2012 (was that 2010??) was the ultimate in 'bad taste/car crash syndrome' movie.
Ah well, happy 2011! xx
