What Happened The Year You Were Born?
January 10th 2008 20:55
Thumbing through a whole lot of CD's at home yesterday - I chanced upon one of those "Where Were You" type compilations - given to me as a gift.
I was a little embarrassed by just how ungracefully I'd aged when I realised that songs such as Hey Paula, He's So Fine, Da Doo Ron Ron, Surfin USA, It's My Party, She Loves You and Sugar Shack were among the feature titles.
My day was made all the more like a history lesson when I read that the year of my birth also saw the US and USSR establish "hotline" connection, Kenya, Zanzibar achieved independence from Britain, President Kennedy was assassinated, the first episode of Doctor Who screened, Alcatraz closes, the first James Bond film was shown and Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech.
I discovered that II shared my birth year with American basketball player - Charles Barkley along with actor William Baldwin, golfer Vijay Singh, Vanessa Williams, Quentin Tarantino, Elle Macpherson, Julian Lennon, Mike Myers, Johnny Depp, Phoebe Cates, Whitney Houston and Brad Pitt among others.
In fact - despite my inner protestations (and the nubleus nature of my gazing) - I found the whole experience not only enlightening - but a bit of fun to boot.
Knowing that Brad Pitt and Elle Macpherson were no doubt doing exactly the same thing - and regailing in the knowledge that they too shared something in common with me - made it all that much easier to accept.
Think I'll have the gang around for a BBQ?
So folks - delve within and share the events, songs et al of your birth year - I'm sure it will make for interesting weekend reading.

The most important thing that happened the year I was born... was that I was born of course! My father cried, I am told. With happiness.
All to the good to share anything with Johnny Depp, MNG. In most women's cases, his bed would be preferable, but his year of birth is fine too!

A lady never discloses her age (unless she so chooses) - and a gentleman heaven forbids never even goes there.

Assume you exchange birthday cards with QEII (or Lizzy - as I suspect you affectionately know her by now).
Cheers

Patsy Cline release "I Fall to Pieces" and "Crazy." The success of the songs help her cross over from country to pop.
Audrey Hepburn delights as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but Henry Mancini emerges as the real star. He won two Oscars and four Grammy Awards for the score, which included the hit "Moon River."
Popular movies: The Hustler, and La Dolce Vita
Pulitzer Prize: Fiction: To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
Michael J Fox, Jeremy Northam, Marcia Cross, Joan Chen. George Clooney, Lady Diana Spencer, Heather Locklear, Woody Harrelson, and Henry Rollins all share my birthday year

Like good wine . . . like good wine . . .
We're not quite vintage just yet - but we're certainly worth bottling.
Stay well
