TV, Radio or Computer?
July 6th 2008 23:01
As a result of nothing in particular - conversation turned to discussion which then turned to debate amongst a group of friends over weekend with regards to which of the three modern mediums - televisoin, radio or computers has had the most profound influence on society.
Of course - a bit like a dog chasing its own tail - all three have their virtues and all three have played a huge role in shaping today's world.
But which (in your opinon) has been THE most influential?
Would love to add your reasoning to our weekend debate - err - discussion.

One thought is that television encompassed the capabilities of radio, and computers encompass the capabilities of television, making computers the most powerful medium.
But have people generally been influenced by using a computer the same way that early radio listeners, awed by the magical new medium, were influenced by the world of opinion suddenly available to them?
Another crucial question is this: was it red wine or beer that accompanied your weekend discussion
Regards,
Chris

The net (and by stealth the computer) has put people in touch with people like no other method of communication has done before - but I'm sure similar was said of how TV bridged the divide and radio brought news of the world to our liviving rooms.
It's a toughie.
BTW - it was a liberal smattering of Red - with a guest appearance of a couple of fruity whites.

God bless television. Keep the programming pure...
Don't adjust you set, There is nothing wrong with it....
On Big Brother tonight which self obsessed television hopeful will have there dream dash in front of your eyes?
Call now and you will get this et of steak knives as well....
I am waiting for your call... Girls gone wild...
Tonight on the Biggest loser we will reject claims that it nothing more than fatsploitation. Pork Pig here will give the talk.
Australia's Top Model. Because we say so and she does not know better.
Australian Idol. Yes we can manufacture a star so you better be thankful. Otherwise we will bring back Don Lane.
Tonight on Today Tonight we found another person in Queensland ripping of old people who should know better. We also have a story about a weight lose pill that despite its paid endorsement does work.
Oh my Gawd they killed Kenny, And now here is another fart joke.
Actually the Bottom line is:
I only like Top Gear. Mythbusters, Death Note and the occasional Dr Who.
Death Note is on tonight and it is really good.

Wonder why they run all that?
Will say Mythbusters is outstanding - can't wait for one of the commercial stations to pick it up - denude it - give it an a couple of celebrity psudo scientific geeks and have all equipment used supplied by Bunnings . . .

One could argue that the entire Nine Network news presentation philosophy resembles that remark.

Radio started the communication/information/ind octrination revolution...
TV finessed it and made it into a crass art form with dangerously subtle abilities of persuasion
and finally computers will outclipse them all, just before we find out the Mayans were right, and the world ends on December the 22nd 2012, at 11-11am!!!
Lets throw a HUGE Orbellean party on the 21st of December 2012!!!!?? No pooters, just ipods maybe!!
cheers and love that old TV in the picture MNG!

Both radio and television only requires a passive response while the internet is the opposite. Case in point, this post.
Love & stuff

It's a toughie isn't it? Each is a product of the ages. Have to admit to being a real fence sitter on this one.
Great to see you.

Corny innuendo aside - I don't know which (if given the choice) I would turn on if only afford one . . . I guess if I was on a desert island I probably go with TV - but then again . . . .

And I'd pre-tuned the box for the Peanuts Christmas special on the 23rd.

Good point.
Though through the whole 'vote for your favourite housemate', 'vote via SMS for your favourite song', 'call us and let us know your thoughts on . . .' et al - I guess all mediums see value (and money) in public interaction.
Stay well

Boy - and I thought I would glean a more concise picture of which way people were leaning . . . think I'm getting even more splinters from that uneasy fence sitting.
Everything you say is of course - 'right on the money' to use racing parlance.
