Celluloid Trade Heroes

Tim The Toolman
Remember Jennifer Beales - the Steel Town Girl on a Saturday night - from Flashdance?

How about Tim the Toolman Taylor?

Or Can We Do It - Yes We Can - Bob The Builder?

Flashdance
Well in discourse with my brother-in-law (a builder himself) - we were racking our brains to come up with 10 building tradies who have featured in either movies or TV.

It wasn't easy - and to be honest - other than Al Borland - Tim the Toolman's famous sidekick - we struggled big time - hence the inclusion of Jennifer Beales - and even the construction worker from the Village People!

So help us out! Be they home handymen, electricians, plumbers, builders, steelworkers - who have endeared themselves to us via either the big screen or the box?

I suppose Joe the Plumber is out of the question, although he was on TV quite a lot for a while there.

I thought of a few:

George the Handyman on Newhart.

Roseanne's hubby Dan was a construction worker.

Pretty sure Fred Flintstone would fit nicely into this list as well. Wasn't he like a rock quarry worker?

Do'h . . .

Of course Dan was a tradie (or sorts) and Fred Flintstone - well a quarry worker probably fits the bill too.

Though why he wore a tie to work was always beyond me.

Fred is always wearing a dark tie signifying his job as a blue collar worker. Although the Flintstones were from the working class, they had always dreamed of meeting important people and Hollywood movie stars and living the high-life by even becoming stars themselves.

Jon Bon Jovi played a plumber for a short time in Ally McBeal. Does that count?

My vast intellectual resources are surpassed only by my ability to Google stuff. Interesting tidbit about the tie though. Funny how everything gets so psychoanalyzed. Isn't it possible that he just thought the tie looked swell with his little orange jumper?

Morgan

I'll take the first two - but not in my wildest dreams would I call Mike Brady a tradie . . .

Nice try though
