Cartoons that no-one ever seems to recall
August 14th 2010 07:01
Perhaps I'm getting old? Let me rephrase that, I know I'm getting old, particularly when you start citing old cartoons that no-one else seems to have any recall whatsoever of.
Just last week, the topic of conversation turned to classic cartoons - and all the usual suspects started to come to the fore, when I mentioned Prince Planet . . .
Deathly silence.
OK then I retorted, what about Ruff n Ready?
. . . looking for the trifecta I threw in Couragous Cat and Minute Mouse - and viola - three lemons, give the man a cupie doll!
Admittedly some of the crowd were only in their mid-20s - so the concept of Heckle and Jekyl, McGilla Gorilla and Marine Boy was beyond their years, but surely the 40-somethings among them could have at least given me moral support, afterall was I the only one watching these cartoons on the box back when . . . ?

My sister's favorite was a dopey one: Baggy Pants and the Nitwits. She sang the themesong for years. Ouch.
My favorite still is Bugs and all the Looney Tunes.
But I have a special place for the Tick, Animaniacs, Space Ghost, Freakazoid, even Spongebob, and any cartoon that has a tongue in cheek attitude.
I CANNOT STAND Ed,Edd, and Eddy. The worst cartoon on this earth, and it's still on. Everybody screams at full throttle all the time on this show.

Was never a big Smurf fan - and to be honest it was probably well after my time. But I do have a soft spot for them - an old girlfriend gave me a small plastic surfer smurf - which I still have . . . . somewhere?
Cheers
