Rant: I Hate Call Centres
September 9th 2009 00:32
OK - so the day has started off on a particular bad note - and having adopted a Panzer Division like view to anyone who innocently or otherwise stands in my way today - it was not a good time to have to lock horns with an almost illegible Indian call centre operator as I tried to sort out a problem with our new phone.
Foolishly I believed I would be speaking to at least a local operator who could assist me with my line of enquiry - but no - what I was greeted with was not one but two call centre operators who
a. had limited understanding of the situation b. such a thick Indian accent that I found the call virtual useless c. having been shuffled around the call centre three times, was informed that they could not assist anyway - because a decision would need to be made by head office - which is guess where . . . . on the other side of the globe to India and approx 30 mins from home.
Could I speak to someone there - of course not - that's not how it's done is it!
Could I speak with a supervisor?
Errr - supervisor? I'm sorry sir, we will pass your details on to head office and someone should be in touch with you with 10 working days.
What!
Ten working days!
Not good enough. I'm on the warpath people.
The day started particularly badly - went pear shaped from there and there's still a good 14 hours still left in it.

another good threat is requesting a copy of your records through Freedom Of Information, or going to the Ombudsman . . . you dont have to actually do it but they may escalate the call to a team leader
if you tell them you want to speak to someone in Sydney they should be able to transfer you there
