My Earliest Childhood Memory Is?
September 24th 2007 23:28
The past is so often tinted with such a fabulous kaleidoscope of hues and memories that its vibrancy is sometimes overwhelming.
Childhood recollections of long hot summers, freshly mowed lawns and running amok under the sprinkler are of course priceless.
So what are your earliest childhood memories?
Perhaps (like me) it was one of laughter and adventure.
Or perhaps it was the first time you got caught doing something you weren’t really supposed to doing – an experience I recall as a four-year-old – when the thought of painting our long haired white Samoyed dog – with oil based purple paint seemed wonderful at the time.
Maybe you have fond memories of a party, friend or holiday – perhaps it was as inane as collecting the mail for the first time.
Whatever it was – would love to hear it.

I do recall being about 6 and at school in Malaysia. The school we went to had an ALL WHITE uniform. White dress, white shoes. White.....for primary school kids!!!
I was a member of the Brownies (kinda like girl scouts I guess) and I remember always getting into trouble, cos I'd get to our meetings (straight after school) and my white uniform wasn't so white anymore.
Seriously, how would anyone expect a 6 yr old to keep a white uniform clean????
I couldn't do it now at age 32!

Cricketers can't do it - so how a 6yo is expected to - I don't know.
Sorry - Brownies/white unform - conjures an image of a Jersey caramel. It's too early

Oh dear!
How old were you? Hope the whole episode didn't leave some permanent reminder of just how forgetful dad's can be sometimes.
Gotta run - there's something I've just . . . ummm.

My first memory (although I've been told it's impossible but my parents had verified this so who cares what anyone else thinks) is standing in my cot, waiting for my father to walk through the door... somehow I knew he was coming home that night after being overseas and I was waiting for him. Sure enough he was there...I can still hear his voice and I can smell that daddy smell, you know?
I can hear my mum's voice too...expressing her surprise that I was awake. Then I remember being picked up by my father and cuddled.
When I asked my parents about this when I was able... they were a bit surprised because...I can remember what they were wearing. I was just a baby but I can remember. Strongest of all for me is the smell of my parents...that safe, comfortable, have no fear we're here smell of them.
It's a very strong memory and one I cherish.
These are very nostalgic questions you're asking MNG...despite th phrasing of the question, even your next post is!

And it's great to know that genuinely funny, intelligent and warm people take the time to call in and share.
Stay well my friend.

I was about 3ish. Anyway, that episode says a lot about my father anyway.
My brother was in on it too.
You'd think hearing the bath running that someone should check out what was happening? Someone, anyone?

What a great memory to have retained. That is an absolute gem. Hope you've written these things down so as future generations can delight in the simple pleasures we shared as children.
Fond regards
