Growing Up I Wanted to Be . . .

February 23rd 2009 22:37
Remember when all kids really wanted to be when they grew up was either a fireman, police officer or a doctor?

What is it about these three professions that the young gravitate to?

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

And how many of us actually get to do the things we dreamed of as a kid?

And if we did - did you stick with it?

Would love to hear from all the astronauts out there

I wanted to be a rockstar and/or a writer when I was a kid.

My dreams haven't changed in 20 years.

I'm already a journalist...but that rockstar thing proved to be quite allusive...

I can see life as a lyricist through my crystal ball . . . Bernie Taupin perhaps wasn't quite a rock star - but is doing very nicely thank you.

Remember - gold dreams don't cost any more than silver ones old boy.

Wasn't 007 a public servant too?

I wanted to be Buck Rogers or the Captain in Space 1999. LOL
But - when I was about 8 my grandpa took me to Manly Twin Cinemas and I looked back just before the movie started and the projectionist waved at me and I thought he was like a GOD as he provided movies and guess what my actual job is? Yup

I always wanted to be a writer, I'm not a writer though. I studied law and journalism, so I guess the journalism side is close enough. I'm yet to write the novel I wanted to write when I was young though!

I wanted to be a famous actress. So if I'd made it (even though I didn't really try), I could have done a speech just like Kate Winslet last night.

I never really got into the "nurses" thing and I think for guys it's all about the uniform (or at least used to be). Now it's more like detectives, lawyers, investigative journalists - all the ones on TV really.

We have to dream...at least.

Chicken and egg stuff sometimes.

Write a successful novel and retire off the proceeds.

Sure beats working all your life, retiring and then finding out you've got a best seller on your hands . . .

Do'h

Well, I guessed I'm an ordinary guy with an ordinary dream, Mr. Nice Guy. I remembered that I wanted to be a high school teacher when I grown up and look at me ---> I'm now a boring history and geography teacher! lol

Sometimes, it's not wrong to live big with dream...

. . . you meet alot of people as you go through life - most we dismiss as acquaintances as we march through time - and some - like teachers - we recall without an ounce of a stammer.

I can still readily sound off each teacher I've head from the age of 5 and recount something they have done or said which made me the person I am today . . .

Nothing wrong with that is there?

I used to coach a young fella in football - whose mother represented Australia in figure skating . . . co-incidentially she came from a gymnastics background - but due to injury took up ice-skating much later than most - and found her niche.

Talk about clouds and silver linings . . .

Stay well

So many of our friends started life as 'tradies" and found their way into the 'force' - and surprisingly most of them had never even thought about it either growing up.

You just never know where life will lead you.

Good luck with it.

Secrets are dangerous. It's best not to have them.
Hey, mister. You're a nice guy.
