Cicada's, elastics and other ghastly pursuits

Amazing how the little things brighten your day really.
While musing over the highlights of our collective 24 hours, Mrs Nice Guy just happened to mention a group of boys who had turned up to school all with cicada coccoons attached to their shirts . . . badges of honour if you will following an afternoon crusade among the eucalypts.
If the mere thought of boys once again choosing the great outdoors rather than a computer screen to challenge themselves as they tussled with "Green Grocers", "Yellow Monday's" and "Brown Baker's" wasn't enough it was almost too much to hear that their young female co-horts had been spied playing 'elastics' in the school quad at recess and lunch!
For those orblers who may not be aware - elastics ranks right up with their group skipping, handball and chasings as staple pastimes from ye olde worlde days . . . which probably had less chance of making a comeback to an eight or nine year old than a black and white television.
. . . and just like an old valve radio there was a glimmer of hope in my own mind at least - that perhaps, just perhaps the adage everything that is old is in fact new again.
