Sweet . . . !

March 1st 2009 21:45
When I was a kid - musk sticks and the now politically incorrect 'fags' were our lollies (or sweets) of choice.

Jersey caramels, smarties and 'milkshakes' weren't that far behind with fantales, minties, jaffa's and fredo frogs filling out the other top spots.

But the the profusion of lollies which have frequented our taste buds over the years - which have been your favourites.

OK - so some - like Jolly Ranchers and Gummy Bears have only just recently found their way to our shores (along with a whole lot of other sweet imports) over the last few years - while classics such as Golden Roughs and Mint Patties or Caramello Koalas have tantalised the tongues of Aussies for decades.

So whether it's licorice, marshmellow's, chuppa chups or M and M's - it's good to share.

It's good to see some of the older ones are still around like bananas and milkshakes. I have grown particularly fond of the "killer pythons" that you can often buy from newsagents and petrol stations.

A newsagent told me once that it is the adults that seem to like these ones rather than the kids!

Looking back - Milkshakes were a real favourite - I still remember my dad bringing home a box of these when I was sick once - I must've been around 4 - and still recall it.

Probably not the best thing - but boy didn't they taste great.

What about Big Charlie Bubblegum - don't think you can still get that - but what a treat that was as well.

Red and Green frogs still light up young eyes too.

Cheers

Liquorice blocks were very nice. It was great when milk-bars sold all sorts of lollies and you could choose whatever you wanted. They were always so fresh.

Freckles!

How could I forget freckles . . . the staple diet of party goers under the age of 5.

Boy they've survived - a testament to good taste!

Cheers

Teresa

Licorice blocks - boy were they great! You get a whole 'gobful' and chew away to your hearts content - can you still get these - I've searched high and low.

And yeah - wasn't it great to check out the jars or the glass counter full of stuff - and how much fun was it to ask for 1 of this and 2 of that - when shop keepers actually had the patience as well . . .

Thanks for rekindling that memory.

Oh Morgan - a girl after my own heart.

Mint Patties - White Knights - nice . . .

And just how addictive are Mentos?
