TV We Loved - Hill Street Blues
March 9th 2011 01:53
Hill Street Blues created a revolution in television which gave rise much later to programs such as ER - where continuity in story-line, character development and the humanising of its cast was certainly ground breaking for its time.
Based around the people who lived and worked at a big city Police precinct it followed them from their over-worked jobs to their homes where the stressfull jobs often took their toll.
It presented a realistic portrayal of crime and dealing with it than most shows that had come before including endings where the bad guys would get away with their crime.
Starring Daniel J. Travanti as Captain Frank Furillo, the program ran for seven seasons 1981-87.
With a cast of basic unknowns - creative script writers enabled fans to quickly develop a rapport with the likes of Taurean Blacque, who featured as Detective Neal Washington, Charles Haid (Andrew Renko) and Veronica Hamel (Joyce Davenport) with René Enríquez (Lieutenant Ray Calletano), James Sikking (Lieutenant Howard Hunter), Joe Spano (Henry Goldblume), Michael Warren (Bobby Hill) and the obtuse Bruce Weitz as Mick Belker (Animal)
Aligned with a great opening theme - Hill Street Blues was a trail blazer in 80s television on so many levels - and one which justifyably earns its place as TV We Loved!
