Somebody tell me the 70s are over!

As many Orblers will be aware, I host a little radio program each week known as Pop Rocks - which re-acquaints its listeners with the hits of 60s, 70s and 80s.
The format (I hear you say) is hardly new - but for disciples of what is almost painfully categorised as 'classic rock' it is botox for the soul.
Let me expand.
Having produced and hosted the show for around 2 years, I have to admit my interest was waning - same callers, same emailers - nice of course to have a staid following - but there were days when you all you really wanted was for others to enjoy the times, the music and the memories.

Suddenly the tonic I sought in the way of a new audience was tapped!
What just a couple of years ago was a fanciful fly by night site - and the domain of 'young people' - I found 30 and 40-somethings (many of who have overcome their fear of being 'visable') had hijacked FB and realised the value of re-connecting.
Putting two and two together to get five - it took only a couple of weeks for word to spread among old school chums and their friends before the comments and recommendations started to flow.
Now, don't get me wrong - while I aided and abetted the process (and continue to through prompts for the show each week) it's not about the presenter - more a chance to share the escapism with as many as possible each week - while taking instant requests by the chat function on FB.
Last week for example - while not big on numbers 203 comments and requests came through during the three hours of the show - up 50 on the previous week and up by just as much on the week before.
It would seem that not only has there been common ground found among social tribes through music from the 70s but also between the digital world and those old school folk who pooh poohed the concept of social networking not that long ago.
No, the 70s lives it seems in the hearts and souls of many.
Another era, another time which fortunately lives to see another day.
For those interested - why not tune in via the net each Tuesday night (Sydney time) between 7 and 10pm and hear it for yourselves.
Why, even one of our very own Orblers is set to make a return to these very airwaves in the next couple of weeks as well with her own brand of humour and social insights - but more about that later.
