What's Your Favourite Cliche?

October 9th 2007 00:04
The Pen is Mightier than the Sword – but then again All That Glitters Is Not Gold.

The cliché – and A Word to the Wise – Oldies are not necessarily Goodies – or are they?

Perhaps this little post will be the Calm before the Storm – but at the Risk of Cutting My Nose off to Spite My Face – thought it would be interesting to Cut to the Chase and ask the question – What is Your Favourite cliché.

Go On - Get Hot Under the Collar!

Offer a Half Baked Idea!

Keep A Stiff Upper Lip – but whatever you do Don’t Get Your Knickers in a Knot over this one cause it’s just not worth Crying Over Spilt Milk!

So without Flogging a Dead Horse – There’s No Time Like the Present to Pull Your Finger Out, Pull Yourself Up by The Bootstraps and Say What You Will.

Go On – Take Fate Into Your Own Hands and Take The Plunge.

Love to hear your personal favs.

Because There's No Time Like the Present.

"Can't see the Forest for the Trees" had me stumped when I was a kid. Still one of my favourites.

Is That Tongue in Cheek or Have you Just let the Cat out of the Bag?

Don't Get Me Started!

Really, don't. I'll be on here all day.

One thing though, I don't get the saying off Forrest Gump - Stupid Is As Stupid Does.

It's quite possible I'm just stupid.

Careful how you reply to that, MNG! Remember, It Takes One To Know One. (Best say I'm Sharp As A Tack.)

While it's true Forrest was a few sandwiches short of a picnic, you'll never be just another face in the crowd.

Thanks for chewing the fat.

Cheers

Cliches and sports were made for each other--"He came to play" or " ...take 'em one game at a time" or "...his intensity level..." This one's for the team!

And of course - Sport is always the winner on the day!

Thanks for dropping by.

I think the humble Cliche is VERY misunderstood......let's face it, The Cliche is a realy cool saying that everybody likes so much that it becomes a daggy and a Cliche....its a bit unfair, getting promoted to a common old Cliche must suck for something that started off so cool...........the glass is always half full..........could go on all day.....

Nice choices.

But I'm sure you'll agree my good friend Louie Has Hit the Nail on the Head - when she says there's more cliches than you can shake a stick at . . .

Thanks to you both

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Now There's Blast from the Past.

Prime example of someone punted the adage - All Work and No Play makes Jack (or Ferris) a dull boy and who almost Got Caught Red Handed.

Nice work.

There is plenty of truth in cliche thats why they last - "If it aint broke, why fix it"...

One that stuck like glue is "Who is the bigger fool? The fool or the fool who follows him" (Star wars)

Star Wars wisdom - now you're opening a whole new can of worms.

You know MNG, No Matter Where you Go, There you are...

I'd list more, but I'm feeling as flat as a tack. I think I'm coming down with something... must be something I ate?

Fun post,

Cheers, Lilla ...

Thanks for the advice.

But being the fervant sports nut you are - best be careful that those Chickens Don't Come Home to Roost.

Fair winds and smooth seas to you champ.

Well I like to make sure I always give 110%. Of course it's not always about winning....it's how you play the game. And while it's an honour just to be nominated.......it's true that winners are grinners.

So maybe it is all about winning? I'm confused now

. . . and while they've had a somewhat checkered career. it wouldn't take someone who was born yesterday to figure out that if they'd play their cards right - it would be a one horse race.

In a nutshell - yep I'm just as confused . . .
