Bubblegum Trading Cards
July 8th 2011 00:28
Collecting classic bubblegum trading cards is often our first foray into a seriously fun (and inexpensive) hobby.
Kids from around the globe have been doing it for decades - with everything from sport and television to movies and music fair game.
From the moment you remove that wax or foil wrapper - pop that ever so sweet gum into your mouth and handle those colorful pieces of cardboard, you were drawn into the card collecting hobby like a moth to a flame.
My toe into the traded card waters lasted only a couple of years, when my football obession started around the age of 8 or 9 followed briefly by the old Kung Fu televison series and Planet of the Apes, which definitely pays homage to my years.
But it was with some degree of fondness that I recalled those days of yore just the other week when I managed to unearth a container filled with old cards, many still in almost pristine condition from over 35 years ago, and some still with the sweet scent of Scanlans bubblegum.
"Sell em" was the cry from a few friends and sure, they may be worth a couple of bucks via ebay, but you know, some things from your childhood are just worth keeping because while memories don't cost much - it's little things like these which are worth their weight in gold.
