Autograph Collecting

Who doesn’t love collectables? Truth is, there is a huge market for them and if you know what sells then you can make either a handsome profit or a fun hobby out of it.
While many of us enjoyed as children collecting autographs of famous people - today this is not only one of the fastest growing hobbies but also one of the most lucrative.
Add to this the fact that stars autographs will likely increases in value over time, and you now have two of the essential elements of any collectible activity – fun and value.
So how do you go about starting?
Well first of all (believe it or not) old fashioned fan mail.
Most famous people enjoy receiving fan mail. Almost all will take the time to reply to any fan mail you send them. As such, sending a famous person fan mail is normally one of the easiest and least inexpensive ways to obtain their autograph. Your biggest dilemma here will be how you track them down - but hey - that's part of the fun - and the excitement when you eventually source your first, second and subsequent autographs.
Sometimes you can be in the right place at the right time and start will appear and will be wiling to give you their autograph. It doesn't happen often and there are collectors out there who can take their hobby a little too seriously by reading newspapers and gossip sheets to track down celeb's - my advice - don't!
You could buy them - but ebay and similar website are a dime a dozen and while you can probably say you've got so and so's signature - is it really the way to go about starting your collection? I guess that's up to you.
Remember - if you're writing to celebrities I would suggest the following:
Be genuine.
Send something to be signed.
Be patient.
And good luck.
