Would You Want To Know?
November 6th 2007 21:29
If you had the opportunity to know the time and place of your death, would you want to know?
A little morose perhaps - but this little gem of a question popped up just recently - and frankly - the jury was out as far a clear yes or no vote.
For instance.
Would you choose to pay a visit prior? Would you change the way you live now? Would your outlook on life change completely? Would the timeframe itself affect your life choices? What if it was tomorrow?
Confronting perhaps - but bigger picture is that it does tend to force us all to re-assess and refocus on what is important in our lives.
So . . . . ?

But then again, on the other hand, I might get obsessed and not enjoy life in the present, concentrating only on my death. So I don’t know.....hmmmm

Definitely 100% no for me. I think life would then become clock watching and that`s no way to spend your days. I do think that we should already be living our lives as if we knew though... because if you aren`t already doing the things that you want to and not living how you want to then what is the point of bumbling and stumbling along?
Nope I`m a carpe diem kinda gal and I wouldn`t like to know.

It's the same as if I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. The first thing I would probably ask is 'how long'?
I would hope I could live my final days to the fullest, do all the things I want to do, but am scared I would be frozen with fear and obsessed with the countdown, as Tracy says.
This is an unusually morbid topic MNG! I've got an idea for a post for you, something I often think about - If you could choose an era to be born, which would it be?

It certainly is a toughie huh - even if only in theory.
Human nature being what it is - I think curiousity would get the better of most.
Let's hope we're never presented with the option.
Cheers

I like your style. It amused me that some of those involved in the conversation the other day who also were staunch no advocates were also confessed followers of reading their 'Stars' everyday to see what was in store for them. Go figure?

Yep, the curiousity factor would be a natural response.
Personally - think I would have to fight the instinct - and like Tracy - live, love and enjoy life each minute of each day.

Hard to avoid the future - and who would want to anyway.
It offers so much promise. The subject matter did get me thinking though.
My advice - Don't Worry Be Happy.

Not just no but Hell no! I live each day as it is my last (in a good way not in a destructive way)! Great question!

Live and love those closest to you. Make a new friend each day - or at least help someone's journey just a little easier or meaningful.
Stay well.

Mum's Word
I was the type who always peeked at the Christmas gifts before Christmas.
And when I was having my ultrasounds with all 3 of my pregnancies it was very hard to say no to the sonographer when I was asked if I wanted to know the sex. I caved with the 3rd and found out.
I have no will power. But it is a hell of a motivating factor because when things get hairy with the kids I always think 'I could die tomorrow, this isn't a good last moment'.
Love & stuff

What a great motivator that thought is. Think I'll take that with me tonight.
Cheers and always a pleasure.
