I Love The Nightlife - I Love To Boogie
March 12th 2009 21:32
As the weekend approaches and our thoughts turn to things other than the mundane - join with me in donning the flares, platforms and big hair (in spirit at least) and re-visit DJ Nice Guy in the Orble Virtual Disco.
Of course - we'd need a playlist - which is where you come in!
In order that we truly achieve a truly genuine feel for the genre - I'm going to restrict all requests to the 70's and perhaps early 80's - so everyone from KC and Sunshine Band, Bee Gees, Maxine Nightingale, KISS, Donna Summer, Roger Voudouris and Randy VanWarmer along with the Village People are eligible.
So get out the mirrorball in your mind - and start compiling your five favourite disco hits from the 70s and 80s - trust me - I've probably got them on vinyl still.
What's more - I might play either a compilation on my little radio program next Tuesday night - and give those brave enough to put their name to it a big cherio (wow - I can hear you all saying).
And if you're really keen - drop me a line at www.themusicguy.com.au Or Click Here and go to the contact me link - would love to hear for you - cause - I Love the Nightlife . . . I love to boogie . . .

And to think that today will be the old days for others.
Live for today, plan for tomorrow but never doubt the importance the past has in both.
Stayin Allive, Stayin Alive . . .

T-Rex is such an under-recognised band these days. With hits such as Hot Love, Telegram Sam and Metal Guru and a host of others - they have managed to get lost in the wash.
Not sure that they're exactly disco - but definitely very cool.
Speak soon.
Stay well

That's for sure - Marc Bolan did rock . . .
- did a whole lot of illegal substances too - but that's another story altogether

I love the current Nu-Disco resurgence: white label releases of underground disco grooves that would've probably only had very limited releases back in the day.
Disco was one of the most powerful movements in pop music. It spawned the modern dance music phenomenon of house, trance and techno (an uptempo four to the floor beat). It gets heavily criticized, and understandably there is a lot of cheese, but there is also an incredible wealth of extraordinary musicianship. Syncopated rhythm and complex melody reign supreme.
My favourites? Too many to name.

REFLECTIONS
THE WINDMILLS OF MY MIND
I lived throught this wonderful glitter ball period and from what I can remember I had a really good time. So the songs that had me racing to the dancefloor were:
From LA to New York by Patsy Gallant
Best Of My Love by The Emotions
Turn The Beat Around by Vikki Sue Robinson
Dr Love by Tina Charles (really crappy song but in my dorky moments I loved it)
Heavan Must Be Missing An Angel by Tavares
Oh the memories !!
