The Dog Ate My Homework

July 21st 2008 22:26
Dog
So many dogs - only so much homework to be eaten!
Everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - has made up an excuse for something or other at some time for some reason.

During your school years - it was probably some lame - but inventinve excuse for not doing your homework, turning up late or getting into a scrape with another other kid.

As you got older and wiser - the excuses became more and more inventive - or did they?

From trying to explain away why at you really, really needed that day off work to how that set of French nickers found their way into your possession - the excuses - errr - rationale often becomes murkier and murkier - but are there any classic examples out there where you've come up with a "Gold" medal story and got away with it?

At the very least - your story will afford others like me with a new volume to add to an encylopdedic list of either 'what to look out for' or 'how to get out of jail free' cards.

MNG, alas, I find my excuses are becoming less and less imaginative (ie food poisining for taking a day off work). But I will always be proud of my 8th grade excuse for not showing my dad my report card full of Ds and Es. I gave him my old report card with my version of Pro Hart (strategically covering up any incriminating dates) and pretending the reason for the splashes of colour all over the report card was due to me inadvertently leaving it out in the open as I attempted an abstract painting in school.

I always foudn that saying "I didn't do it" is as good an excuse as any...if in fact it qualifies...

I'm with Aimzster in that my excuses are becoming less imaginative. I have to say that my brother had it completely down pat as a child. He would play the Yes But game. Here is how it works. "Robert, are you smoking cigarettes?" "Yes but, I am not drinking underage." "Robert, are you drinking underage?" "Yes but, I am not smoking pot?" "Robert, are you smoking pot?" "Yes but.." Okay, before I get too deep into my brother's past, you get the idea. And, of course, I had to use him as an example, because I was a golden child.

Ahh - the Bart Simpson theory!

I didn't do, no-one saw me, you can't prove it!

Love it.

Never been a good one as far as believable excuses goes - mostly people have just felt I deserve a break - so have let things slide - but must try the 'Yes But' theory.

. . . for clinical purposes only of course.

Cheers

I was raised in an anti-excuse household so any I might come up with would be lame-o! So Sorry friend!
