Rating History's Comedians

Before I speak, I have something important to say.
Humour is reason gone mad!
Both quotes can be attributed to Groucho Marx - part of the legendary Marx Bros - but equally wittisms not to mention garden variety insights have been made on human nature by comedians the world over for umpteen decades.
In fact, well before talkies - the Buster Keatons and Charlie Chaplin's et al of this world were making us not only laugh but also affording social commentary which were not only putting a smile on our faces but made us realise that we were quite often the butt of our own jokes.
Today's better known comics - be they Eddie Murphy, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Martin, Robin WIlliams or Jack Black have of course plied their trade on the back of many of the greats from the not too distant past including Bob Hope, Jack Benny, George Burns, Phyllis Diller and Don Rickles.
But who do you rate?
Whether you're a Laurel and Hardy fan, a Three Stooges fantatic or a disciple of Cheech and Chong, Mel Brookes, Jerry Seinfeld or Woody Allen I'd love to know which funnymen (or women) make the cut in comedy.
