Being A Television Father Is Easy!

From Fred McMurray and My Three Sons through to Mike Brady and his troupe - television dads have all the bases covered!
In fact, there's not too many small screen fathers who actually get it wrong.
Even the most inept or ill-equipped of the Y chromosome genre such as Homer Simpson or Herman Munster eventually seem to get it right by the end of the episode with as much aplomb as say Russ Lawrence (Gidget's dad) or the oh so smooth doyen of fathers Bill Cosby.
So what's the secret?
How is it that the bumbling Fred Flintstone and the ever insightful Ben Cartwright can co-exist on the fatherhood mantel or Al Bundy can match it with Ward Cleaver in the successful child rearing stakes?
Of course, they could never replace our own dads I guess -- in many cases we wouldn't want them to -- but they made us laugh while teaching us a thing or two.
I guess when it all comes down to it "Father Knows Best"
