Your Top 5 Iconic 70's Movies
August 12th 2008 20:34
From a Joe Ordinary's point of view, there have been some amazing movies made.
Some bizarre, some remarkable and some which simply fall into the iconic class.
While every decade had them - the 70's had a proliferation of all genre's (at least to this Joe Ordinary's mind anyway).
From Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, to The Exocist, Saturday Night Fever to Grease, Star Wars to Close Encounters, The Godfather to Rocky - but which five make your iconic 70's film list?
Perhaps Annie Hall did it for you?
All the Presidents Men or American Graffiti?
There's no right or wrong answers - just what works for you.

Deep Red plus Harold and Maude - wow - certainly wouldn't have put those two up for noms.
Probably shows just how shallow I really am when it comes to celluloid.

Gotta love Striesand and Redford . . . but have to admit The Way We Were wasn't the first to come to mind when I think of my personal listings.
As I said - there's no right or wrong answers though - just what works for you.
Do like a Clint Eastwood flick though . . .
Cheers buddy

Where Eagles Dare is a great Saturday afternoon/Saturday night flick - escapism most certainly.

Was waiting for your input - which is always appreciated and somewhat informed to say the least.
Your choices would not go astray on any all time favourites list.
Though Alien never really struck a chord with me.

Love how you have broken these up into genre's.
Interesting that you should list Cheech and Chong - Up in Smoke - they almost fell into the cult category for a group of us back in the late 70's early 80's - we couldn't get enough . . . of them.
Stay well - great lists

It is hard narrowing down a top 5 list from a decade filled with so many great films.
For the moment I would have to say:
1) The Godfather
2) The Godfather Pt II
3) The Exorcist
4) Apocalypse Now
5) Serpico

Serpico! Another goodie that escaped my thought processes.
Surprised no-ones included Taxi Driver too.
Cheers Matt - I'm heading over to your site to check it out.

I'd throw in the Posideon Adventure too - what a cast!
- though I tend to think Maureen McGovern's hit song probably overshadowed the celluloid.

1 Godfather I AND II
2. The Deer Hunter
3. Deliverance
4. The Conversation
5. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Ones I would have liked to included were:
Klute, Annie Hall, All the Presidents Men , Straw Dogs and Midnight Cowboy (although I think this was actually made in 69).
I too think this as a great movie making period - lots of risks were taken with excellent results.

"Lo chiamavano Trinità" and "...continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità"
Better known to the English speaking world as "They Call Me Trinity" and "Trinity Is STILL My Name!"
These two little Italian Spaghetti Western films always brought a smile to my face.

You ain't wrong about the era when it came to doing some risky stuff. But then again - the late 60's and 70's was all about developing new matinee idols, new heroes and re-inventing the movie scene.
Nice choices - and yes - it's tough.
Cheers

How dare you!
70's - a decade of cheese?
When what the 80's dished up including Porkies, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Flashdance, Footloose, Xanadu . . . yaddah yaddah - ouch - talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
