Greatest Movie Scenes of All Time!
November 13th 2008 20:47
While musing about nothing in particular this morning - my mind found itself traipsing through that special void - where it sometimes needs to go in order to escape.
Whilst the pit-stop was all too brief - it did briefly make an unexpected encounter with those classic movies scenes we all have a recall of.
From the rousing vision of Stallone climbing the stairs of the Philadelphia art museum to the chilling shower scene in Pyscho - the memories started flooding back.
Remember Marilyn Monroe standing above a subway grating with her white dress blowing up in The Seven Year Itch, or Clint Eastwoood's retort "...you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya punk?" in Dirty Harry,
How about: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" from Gone With the Wind, or the beach landing in the opening half-hour of Saving Private Ryan,
Or maybe Charlton Heston's sighting of the Statue of Liberty at the conclusion of Planet of the Apes.
These are memorable, defining film moments and some of the all-time best scenes in motion pictures.
But what are yours?

The scene in Ferris Beuller's Day Off (I could stop there and let everyone that has seen it pick one of the many memorable scenes) where he is running home at the end of the day through yards and houses, past his dad's car, but yet stops to introduce himself to two young ladies along the way.
The first time we see Leatherface on screen in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and realize just what is going on.
The black knight scene from Monty Python & the Holy Grail.
The closing reading of the single essay in The Breakfast Club.
The Groundhog Day scenes when Bill Murray's character decides to live with the fact that he is living the same day again and again and starts having fun with it.
The na na na na na na na scene from Caddyshack. Of course the dancing gopher scenes are good too.
The scene where Goose died in Top Gun.
My wife might disown me if I didn't include the climatic courtroom scenes from To Kill a Mockingbird.
I like Morgan's egg eating scene too, and while I am on Paul Newman - the cliff jumping scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
That's all for now.

Is this a trick question? By my age dear, you cannot just flip all thosescenes off the top of year head, least you really flip off your head whilst at it *chuckle* it all gets very delicate.
I must have categories, so I may be back a few times ... first category:
Noble scene : Anna and the King when they finally danced together. Stunning, simply stunning.
I*ll be back ..

I'm impressed with your inclusion of the egg eating scene from Cool Hand Luke . . . it is indeed a classic.
Nice work.

I like some of John Ford's shots from Monument Valley despite the fact that most of them are B&W!

In "Out of Sight" (Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney) one scene really stands out -she is talking with her father and her husband (Michael Keaton) comes in a T-shirt with FBI boldly across it. Her father asks "have you got one of them with undercover on it?"

Let's Get Down To Business
The end of The Usual Suspects, where you have the wall and the coffee cup dropping, and you see 'The Bad Guy' (i'm trying not to give it all away to anyone who has not seen this brilliant movie: If you have not seen it, go and rent it right now!)...
Just stopped my heart, stopped me breathing, stopped everything... Absolutely awesome.
Second would have to be the final fight scenes out of Equilibrium. They were just incredibly well done (to those that have seen the movie, the last hallway he goes through where he rolls the clips out... oh yeah).
Close third is the scene out of.... one of the Lord of the RIngs movies, I'm pretty sure it's Return of the King... where the ships pull into the harbour after Aragorn has infiltrated them, and then aragorn and the army of ghosts pour out and win the battle. The scene where they are charging the orc lines and the ghosts army sweeps through them sent chills down my spine.

That scene out of The Usual Suspects was a good one wasn't it? Thanks for reminding me. It's actually one of my all time favourite movies.

Um, Kate Winslett "Jack, come back......Jack" as the cold is freezing her. Very corny - speaking of - the scene on the bow of Titanic that will forever have my mind scarred with Celine Dion!
LOTR "You shall not pass!" - and Sir Ian McKellan smash his staff into the ground.
Die Hard "Yipppy Kayay Mother^&%$er" as Bruce slips through the door backwards covered in blood and cuts.
ET - flying over the moon.
Cool post - am sue I could think of a million more.

More modern day classics fella . . . there's no doubting that despite claims to the contrary in some sectors that we are still producing some standout celluloid with poigent scenes.
Nice selection!

how can you go past "Yo Adrian... I DID IT" - Rocky
Fantasia - the apprentice with Micky Mouse
best scene though? I love Usual Suspects so glad to see it got a mention, I love their use of the old cameras when recounting the story behind Soze
Also the final scene in Fallen with Denzel Washington... or the touch sequence with "tiiiime is on my side"
Fight Club has any number of great scenes... but to be obscure, when he is walking through his apartment and all the Ikea pricing is coming up for every single item in his house, it was one of the best cinematography things i have scene at the theaters, it was brilliant...
Braveheart speech... I am William Wallace!
Lock Stock two smoking barrels - pick one...
Snatch - when Brad Pitt is knocked out and falls into the water- best sequence
But then again, how can you pick one scene...
