Top 10 Vertically Challenged Achievers

April 1st 2009 21:19
Vertically Challenged
Did you know that Beethoven stood only 5' 3"?

Or that Richard Dreyfuss is a mere 5' 5"?

Or how about Sammy Davis Jr. standing 5' 3" in just his socks?

The proliferation of vertically challenged acheivers is a testiment to the addage size isn't everything - and given the contenders - there's certainly been some big names and even bigger achievements from those who - how do I put this - aren't short on talent, drive or enthusiasm.

Take Curly and Moe Howard from Three Stooges fame - 5' 5" and 5' 4" respectively, Dudley Moore 5' 2" or Paul Simon also 5'2" .

Of course we shouldn't forget the ladies either with Nancy Cartwright, Kylie Minogue, Mae West and Dolly Parton all straiining to make 5' or 153cm in the new measurement.

So who, of our vertically challenged achievers, has risen to the greatest heights?

From a list I spied - the only one I reckon might not necesarily quality is Martin Short (think he was 5'8" - perhaps that qualifies).

Reece is only 5'2" ? Really - how compact!

well im 6 foot tall, so 5' 8" is short to me!

its funny if you try to google an actors height you usually get a 2 inch range, like Martin Short is reported as being between 5'6" and 5'8" . . . you would think an exact height would be known with all the costuming, and considering physicality would be part of casting

You can't go past Don Bradman, or John Howard.

I've seen you run.

Wow - a 6-footer and proud of it. The boys must love you in heels!

Perhaps Martin is getting shorter as he gets older.

Met 'little Johnny Howard' some years ago - he visited our offices and I seconded him.

Funny at the time - given how many security guys were talking into their lapels kinda - as we probably spent 10 minutes chatting about sport - in particular cricket.

It was suprising how his demeaner changed from politician to regular fella - when we found common ground in Bradman, Waugh and Ponting.

The best thing about a short man is that you can lock him in a cupboard

Hey Sam

I think he chooses his co-stars wisely.

Pacino somehow has a knack for selecting appropriate roles to suit . . .

They all look about 10 feet tall on the big screen though.

Cheers

I moved to Glasgow 5 years ago from London to start a new job as a creative director with G3 Creative Solutions and noticed the size of most males here are around 5' 6" the same height as actor Dustin Hoffman. Many of the ladies are even smaller at around 5' 3"

As a matter of interest I am 5' 9"

Tom Crise is slightly taller at 5' 7"
Danny DeVito is even shorter at 5' 0"
and the late great Dudley Moore was around 5' 2

Who say's size matters.

Those Anglo-Celtics in the northern hemisphere need a little more sun and a few more daylight hours.

Ever noticed how movie stars seem shorter in real life - yet sports stars seem taller when you come across them - how does that work?

Cheers - interesting tale.
