What's Your Favourite Beach Boys Song?
November 8th 2007 21:19
I've always had an affinity for the sand, the surf and the whole sterotypical blue skies, golden beaches and rolling cystal cyclinder thing.
It stems no doubt from an early age - where weekends, holidays (in fact large chunks of my childhood) were spent savouring the amoratic delights of a heady mix of vinegar and olive oil - in an effort by my mother to combat my best friend (worst enemy) - sunburn.
Going hand in hand with this of course - was my love of the Beach Boys (well their music anyway).
From the iconic Good Vibrations (recently featured in the closing scenes of Wild Hogs) through to Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe and Hawaii - to later (and more commercial hits) like Kokomo and the signature tune from the Lethal Weapon 2 - Still Cruisin' - the laid back Beach Boys mantra is both infectous and non-confronting.
In fact I can honestly say that I've yet to come across anyone who has said to me that they simply don't like their music. (Perhaps they're just being polite).
Whimsical - yet brilliant in many respects - their tunes have and will live on - a testament to long hot summers and a mindset a damned lot more relaxed.
So - do you have a favourite?

Well, it's not that I can't stand it, but it's not really my style. There's a lot of other music from the 60's and 70's that I preferred.

The Beach Boys would have to come in after all of these, at least!

OK - will chalk you up as the first person I've come across who forthrightly comes out with the words "I simply don't like their music".
I guess if we all chose to feast from the same menu - life would be pretty damend boring.
Always a pleasure to have you drop by.

Miss 10-year-old thinks In My Room is great too. Funny how the whole BB thing transends the generations.
All I can say is ;
Its automatic when i
Talk with old friends
The conversation turns to
Girls we knew when their
Hair was soft and long and the
Beach was the place to go
Thanks James

Is it the tune, the sentiment or the fact that Cadbury has embellished the minds of chocoholics everywhere that leads you to this choice?

You and me both.
Very few groups can justifyably claim to have hits covering three decades and still today - pull enormous crowds to their gigs world-wide.
Hope you'll call in again soon.
Thanks for sharing.
