What's your favourite breakfast food?
October 22nd 2007 22:25
At this time of the year - I have to admit I have penchant for a good 'smoothie'.
With summer just around the corner, the mere thought of starting the day with an icy cold mango, banana or peach 'die for' after an early morning tango on the longboard - is something even St Peter holds sacred.
Number 2 daughter of course could live on a diet of Coco Pops - while Daughter's 1 and 3 would - if allowed, alternate between French Toast and Pancakes given the opportunity - though Vegemite rates remarkable well with all three.
Mrs NG - is hardly fussed - and is more often than not a creature of the 'what ever's easiest' school of thought. Mind you - the mere mention of the word croissant does elevate her outlook on the day.
Perhaps you're not a breakfast person at all. Or perhaps the delight of the coffee bean is enough to arouse the senses?
Perhaps you're a cereal offender (thanks Mis) - and can't get by without your Sultana Bran, Museli or "Cornies" each morning.
Hot or cold, savoury or sweet, simple or gourmet - what's your favourite breakfast food?

What is it about Cold Pizza in the morning? I know it's the staple diet of many after a big night - but I've never been able to come at it myself.
Perhaps it's the milk I add to it when it's in the blender!
Stay well

When it comes to eggs - people fall into two categories - hard vs soft.
Then there's the subsets of those categories - hard boiled, scrambled, poached etc etc.
So easy to make - so difficult to get 'just right'.
Thanks for taking the time and dropping in.

Not if you're the pig
Yeah bacon's 'prime' - but it's got to be crunchy.
I used to cook this (ever so occassionally) using teraki marinade - talk about something so 'deluxe' being so damn bad for you.
Thanks for sharing

I adore breakfast.... all breakfast foods (except for eggs). I also have to have crispy bacon. I do not like it undercooked. I love to go to greasy diners when I travel for breakfast. I love the atmosphere of those places :0)!

Ya know - I'm always tempted to go the whole hog when I'm dragged away to some conference - and have to fight the urge. Thankfully I manage to survive the instinct to just gorge myself - though I do feel a little ripped off if I don't and everyone else does.
Happy feasting

As a kid - I thought there was nothing better than hot porridge with milk and sugar - still have the occassional comfort bowl now and then.
I can completely relate.
Thanks for dropping by - hope it's the first of many calls.
Cheers

My kids (and I) went through a Banana Pancake period every Sunday - bit of a ritual really - the downside was we felt full as a goog - the upside was no-one even felt like lunch - so more time to play!
Glad to see someone else other than just Michaelie gives Vegemite a guernsey.
Eat today - for tomorrow we diet . . .

Through the week I'm sensible and either have a smoothie with fruit, yoghurt, soy milk etc or a healthy but slightly dull cereal. On the weekends we usually have a cafe meal before or after we have a walk with the hairy pooch. Mmmmm, now I feel hungry....

The whole sensible thing has alot going for it - but every now and then you need some balance - huh!
A couple of cycling friends of ours make a point of retracing a 45km trip to their favourite patisserie every Sunday - before riding home again - guilt free.
Yep - can feel the hunger pangs now . . .

<LOL> I recognise those children...*chuckle*
For me : upon arising, a cuppa... Natures cuppa : that is, rich ground roasted barley, rye, chicory, malt and figs coffee substitute, with lite soy.
About an hour later : two pieces of seedy bread lightly toasted; any of the Helga's range of seedy, but I particularly like Soy and Lindseed, Pumpkin and 5 Seed, or Soy and Sesame - topped of with a small can of Baked Beans only, no butter.
All this is washed down, half an hour later, with a cup of rooibus vanilla tea and two rice cakes sandwiched with home made raspberry jam.
Hmmm, going now to put the toast on...
*chomp* Bon appetite!

Part of the Nice Guy clan has just returned from the UK - having trialled with both Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle - how about that!
Sorry - back to the matter at hand . . . never been a big coffee fan - the occassional cup is a nice change when it's made for you - otherwise I'm a bit of peppermint tea man.
Thanks for dropping by - hope you'll call in again soon.

Not too big on fruit for breakfast...well, maybe papaya and passionfruit...
Most days it's either porridge (yum!) with a big sprinkling of crushed linseed and almond mix or oatbrits...and wholemeal toast with avocado and promite or 2 slices of toast with crunchy peanut butter and good intentions.
I should drink green tea but I need coffee.
...but first I need to drink about a litre of water before anything else.
If I don't...2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in tepid water and sipped not gulped. Kickstarts the metabolism like nothing else.
The taste might take some getting used to...
Where was I?
Okay...
Eggs Benedict. Or soft poached eggs on soy and linseed toast.
If I'm feeling decadent...raspberry jam and cream on croissants or...coco pops with thick cream or... crunchy nut cornflakes with honey...
And...for all those that know Indian food well or have lived in India...idli with coconut chutney and dosa with tamarind chutney and spicy masala chai...
Yummm....
And then it's time for morning tea...

I was about to formulate a witty yet educated response - but frankly I'm gobsmacked.
Sorry Lilla - I'm off to my new best friend's place for brekky . . . on her decadent days at least
