The Definitive Top 10 Cartoon Characters of All Time

August 18th 2009 00:27
Fred Flintstone
Fred survives the cut - but Barney doesn't quite crack it.
As a kid - I would often don a cape, adopt superhuman powers for a hour or so and save the world from a fate which only I could conjure.

So how broken was I when I spied the latest list of Top 50 cartoon characters as voted by a collective of TV viewers, newspaper respondents and comic afficiondo.

Whiile most of the time we just love to laugh at their antics and misfortune. the following is just the Top 9 of all time, as judged for their influence, their popularity and their hilarity. In order that we get some kind of balance I would like you to round things off with your choice for the coveted 10th spot.

1. Bugs Bunny

2. Homer Simpson

3. Mickey Mouse

4. Bart Simpson

5. Charlie Brown

6. Fred Flintstone

7. The Grinch

8. Popeye

9. Wile E. Coyote

10. ?

Bugs Bunny
Ehhh - What's Up Doc?

Daffy Duck!!!!

I'm glad to see Bugs Bunny in the top spot though I would have actually expected Mickey Mouse to be first. I would have had Mickey first and Bugs Bunny second.

Daffy Duck ... or perhaps Sylvester the Cat.
Or what about Bender the robot?
Or The Pink Panther?

I'm very happy that Wile E. Coyote is included, but The Grinch???

Can I include Calvin & Hobbes? They're actually my favourite cartoon characters, but I don't think they were ever animated ... or were they?

Mr. Nice Guy, I though the Walt Disney cartoons characters, such as Donald Duck, Goofy and much more should be in the chart as well! Maybe you can make a Top 20 chart...?

Awww I love that kitty that Pepe Le Pew is always after. She's a tortured soul I really love the cat Figaro from Pinocchio! Actually, my favorite cartoon cat of all time is the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.

MNG, in case you haven't noticed, I love cartoons and have a lot to say about them. LOL

Ahhh, Dog ... are you a Kiwi Rusty?
My dad was originally going to be the voice of Dog in the animated feature, but they ended up casting Peter Rowling instead.

I think Pepe Le Pew is sometimes referred to as Pepe L'Amour. I feel like I've heard that before myself. And the object of his desire is Penelope Pussycat.

Morgan, I love Daria! I have to get the DVD of the series. I loved her dry and deadpan delivery.

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy. Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye

I'm now going to back awaaaay from the cartoons! lol

Oh! What about The Thundercats?? I loved them as a kid.

Ok, I'm gone

Choo Choo was Top Cat's best friend, looked Siamese or Burmese.

Snagglepuss!!! I loved him! Now, was he gay? Certainly camp. What was that catchphrase of his? Or was it just a word he said? And the way he said it!
