TV Theme Songs - What's Your Favourite
March 11th 2008 06:23
Da Da Daaaaaaaaaaaaa - Da,
When I was a kid - and you heard the theme to Get Smart resonating through the house - you knew it was close to dinner time.
Check Out Max By Clicking Here
You either had your homework finished - or dipped out on seeing Agent 86, The Chief and Larraby altogether.
The same can be said I'm sure for "Sunday, Monday . . . Happy Days" or come to think of it - everything from the foot tapping opening to the classic My Three Sons, McHales Navy, Brady Bunch, Hogan's Heroes or The Addams Family.
To say the list of TV theme songs which have made their way into our hearts and minds is daunting - would unstate just how many there have been.
Classics in their own right - they are instantly recognisable - The Dick Van Dyke Show, Here's Lucy, HIll Street Blues, The Munsters, The Partridge Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Laverne and Shirley . . . on and on and on it goes.
Today - the TV theme song has lost a little of its lustre.
It's still there mind you - mostly truncated - but with a few notable exceptions - which follow in the footsteps of the greats.
So members of the jury - I put it to you - what have been your most memorable Television Theme Songs?

for sure!!!!
I was only about 8 when it was on but I still know all the words.
Look at what's happened to me-e,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm on top of the world,
It shoulda been somebody else.
Believe it or not I'm walking on air,
I never thought I could feel so free-e.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer,
Who could it be? Believe it or not it's just me!
Oh man, I miss the 80s. Thanks for trip down memory lane, Mr Nice Guy.

My pleasure.
The past is such a wonderful watercolour of memories isn't it.
I remember the first time I saw the Greatest American Hero - cheesy but fun - very much for its time.
You should check out Really Long Link

I'm more a catchy jingle type guy - it's an artform in itself - and one that immediately evokes more than just memories of the programs themselves.
But to each their own.
Cheers would have to be a modern day classic in my books alongside Hill Street Blues - both (not surprisingly) making it onto the mainstream Top 40 charts in their day.
Thanks for taking the time - you've got a good selection going there.

Speaking about oldies - how about The Texas Rangers or even Circus Boy - with a seriously young Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees fame.
As far as lost tunes go - always had a soft spot for Baa Baa Black Sheep with Robert Conrad and all those restored Corsair fighters. Great stuff.
Thanks James - always a pleasure.

Who's the Boss and Perfect Strangers.
Can't beat the cheesy yet painfully earnest 80s lyrics.
Thanks for that link MNG. The grainy VHS quality just added to the nostalgic experience.

Most definately the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel theme songs. Other good ones are the Twin Peaks and Masters of Horror theme songs which have very unsettling and creepy vibes to them.

Masters of Horror is a newie on me.
Buffy really did have a following didn't it?
In fact sat on the train a couple of weeks ago next to a guy who was watching one of the DVD's on his laptop - talk about a fan - huh?

Yeah, Buffy is definately a cult kind of show I think pretty much anything affiliated with Joss Whedon has gathered a following because he has a knack for emotive writing.

So from that post, my favourites are Futurama (which sadly is no longer my ring tone!), Angel and Alias. I still get the urge to dance every time I hear the Alias opening music...
