Who Is Your Favourite 'Friends' character?
June 29th 2009 08:09
When talk turns to "Friends" two things are for sure and certain - you're either a fan or conversation has lagged - but at least you're definitely with a group of 'friends'.
So it is with some sobriety that I admit that the topic did come up over the weekend on who was our favourite "Friends" character.
The only rule - you could only choose one.
Now whether you related to the character, thought the show would be lost with them or simply thought they were cool, funny - whatever - I'll let you in on a secret . . . Ross and Monica featured at the bottom of the list.
Now that's not to say that you might not think they deserve to be further up the hit list - but let's just say that for mine - Phoebe, Joey, Rachel and Chandler probably do finish ahead.
So where do you sit with on the "Friends" question?

A conscientious objector! Good for you. Perhaps the question should have been - whose you're least favourite - everyone seems to have one of those . . .
Always a pleasure

The whole smelly cat thing is what really got me hooked on Phoebe - after that she (and her nastier sister) could do no wrong.
Stay well

It was clever character planning by the creators - taking one character type from each of the main social groups in 'DISC' assessment and then chucking in two 'linking' characters.
You tend to find that people then generate towards people like themselves. That said - it was almost a forgone conclusion that 'D' types or shoot now ask questions later type people were never going to watch the show in any case - so early story lines were amended and Phoebe's original character changed.
So much social science employed . . . who'd guessed

A lot of companies now employ DISC assessments of employees or potential new workers to see how they would fit into an organisation.
D= people who see challenges to overcome in an unfavourable environment and try to change, fix or control things
I= people who enjoy a favourable environment in which they can influence others then try to persuade, promote or encourage
S=people who try to be co-operative, supportive and agreeable in order to keep things stable and
C= people who like to work within established guidelines and rules to ensure quality and accuracy.
Then there's sub-groups - like High D with an I tendency - we all fall into distinct categories - pretty interesting people stuff - if you're into that kinda thing.
Cheers

It's funny how the science of psychology goes into some (or most) of today's programs.

For example Joey when he explained a "moo point"(It's a cow's opinion.)
Ross when he was at a girls apartment in the bathroom, and couldn't get his tight leather pants back on,and the hilarity that followed.
Also Ross when he accepted a tranquilizer "on account ofhis rage" over the turkey sandwich.
Monica when she left an embarrassing outgoing message about her period on Richard's answering machine.
When Chandler and Joey got Monica a Christmas gift that was "ribbed for her pleasure"
Rachel and Ross on the plane where she threw water on his lap and told the stewardess he'd had an "accident",then Ross drew on Rachel's face with indellible marker after she dozed off.
I have a lot more favorite lines but I'd be here all night writing them! What a great show! Great characters and let's not forget...EXCELLENT writers! I still watch repeats if the episode is a particular favorite. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
