Who's Your Favourite Peanuts Character?
January 6th 2008 20:59
When I was growing up - there was a time when Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang was the coolest comic strip doing the rounds.
While no one really ever wanted to be Charlie Brown - we all subconsciously at least - had a soft spot for him despite his anguishes and laments.
Truth was though, every member of Peanuts troupe was disfunctional in some way.
From Linus and his security blanket to the bossy, crabby and self-centred Lucy with her know-it-all attitude - dispensing advice whether you want it or not.
Of course there was everyone's favourite extroverted beagle with the Walter Mitty complex - Snoopy constantly daydreaming atop his doghouse - more often than not recounting his days as a flying ace. Then of course there was Schroeder, who simply idolized Beethoven.
From Marcy to Pig Pen, The Little Red Headed Girl to Peppermint Patty and Woodstock, Peanuts was one of the first comic strips with more than two or three characters.
And - just like our own family and relatives, each Peanuts character brought special humor and insight to life.
So - for those who were in love (and those who can still remember) - who was your favourite Peanuts character?

Always though Woodstock was an afterthought to boot!
Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Linus were right up there for mine. As for Lucy - I could never really make up my mind if I liked her or loathed her.
Thanks for dropping by.

It was certainly a strip for its time - which transended the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
I suggest that the whole Peanuts strip/cartoon/movie genre probably found its niche period between 1968 thru to 1972-3 - after that, I agree - it tended to lose a bit of steam.
It remains a testament to American culture at the time.
Cheers champion
