Do You Believe In Ghosts?

December 16th 2007 21:12
My mother will swear on a stack of pancakes - that ghosts exist.

She'll tell you that she has has not only seen one as a young woman but is adament that one fixated with anything that chimes or rings has lived in her home for the past 30 years.

Whilst a group of younger visitors were watching a video at the palatial Nice Guy mansion over the weekend - this same question came to the fore.

Of course most kids (at one time or another) will at go through the 'ghost' in my room, 'ghost' in the house, 'ghost' in cupboard stage - which can be almost crippling in some cases.

(An affirmation perhaps of too many tall tales - after all - kids will tell you that ghosts are bad - huh - despite the best efforts of Caspar and his friends.)

Personally - I'm not too sure about the whole ghost thing per se - but I genuinely believe a spirit of sorts looks over my shoulder from time to time - a comfort thing perhaps - but none-the-less a belief I take with me through life and that I can't logically explain or try to think too much about.

That said - are there ghosts out there.

Are they the Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore types or more the Ghost of Christman Past, Present and Future types?

Have you ever seen a ghost?

Do you attest to their existence - or is it just a legacy of a fertile imagination.

Would love to hear your take on it.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I'm terrified, none the less. Have you seen those vengeful spirits in Japanese movies? I can't take it!

Yeah for sure they exist.

Read my own post that I have copied here, Really Long Link and yes they do become fixated on things. I had one that was fixated with one of my James Dean posters in my bedroom.

There are good ones and bad ones. Your mum has a good one that means no harm, maybe just lost and ready to move on. A clairvoyant may be able to see if the ghost is ready to move on, unless it was a suicide and then the ghost may stii be in pergatory.

Hey Cibby

If you're really interested - or perhaps given your passion you've already viewed it - try 'Kwaidan'
by Masaki Kobayashi.

An oldie but a goodie. Think it's still available on DVD.

Hey There

Actually my mother has become quite fond of the household ghost - and he/she/it is almost a part of the family these days.

You're right - it means no harm - and is quite the prankster - think it's quite happy with our company to be honest - and we with it.

Cheers

Interesting, I just had a conversation last week with a group of friends after having THE BEST LAKSA in Sydney.

I do believe the possibility of the existence of ghosts, just like anything else. I have a friend who says he can see/sense people's auras and see spirits, have friends who have out of body experiences and a close friend of mine can read people well enough to pick out those who would be able to see ghosts or have some sort of 'ability' so to speak to sense 'supernatural' things.

She told us of how her friend, let's call her 'Amy', a massage therapist, had a client who stopped in the middle of a treatment and said "what does the number 25 mean to you?" and Amy was surprised because that whole time she was massaging her client, she was thinking about her upcoming 25th birthday. Turns out the client was the woman who assisted the police in catching Ivan Milat. She would have really vivid dreams where she was Milat, and she saw what he did to his victims... scary thought.

That's spooky - good spooky mind you.

Some earnestly believe that the whole 6th sense thing is either something that is an evolutionary change or (like wiggling your ears) is an ability we once had and have since lost.

I guess we've all had that weird sensation from time to time of thinking about a particular song and then - up pops that tune on the radio or having thoughts of someone and suddenly the phone or doorbell rings.

There was a great experiment I was involved with as a kid many years ago involving kids, teens and adults - and a cylindical cone balanced on a wine glass.

Balancing the cyclinder on the stem of the wine glass and placing your hands no closer than 3cm to the cyclinder - you had to concentrate on spinning the cyclinder (made out of cardboard) on the stem of the glass - either clockwise or counterclockwise.

Guess what - of the 30 kids, teens and adults - 4 managed to spin the cyclinder - all kids under the age of 8.

Perhaps our little minds weren't corrupted or stymied by what could and could not be achieved.

Sorry to bore.

Thanks for calling by though.

I believe in ghosts, though I have never seen one. I believe there is more to us than a brain in a body, some spirit which lives on. I feel like it's something I have to believe in, for my own sense of peace.

Beyond that, I have no idea! I can't imagine any chainshakers anyway.

Hey Mich

Chainshakers huh?

Never seen any of those - would probably fall down laughing if I did come across one though - as I suspect it would be either a cowardly ghost just trying it on or a really funny ghost taking the p*ss out itself.

Yeah - there's definitely throught processes behind the whole more to life than just the shell we walk around in while we're here.

Whether it's true or not - I guess the living will never know.

Thanks for gracing us with your insights.

Now there's a website just screaming out to be created.

Perhaps you should at least post on utube.

I've seen a "hooded figure" in my teens, it came into my room and pressed down on my chest. thing is, I don't remember it going away. All I know is that I didn't panic, I had a hard time breathing while it was pressing on my chest, but I'm not sure if it just suddenly stopped or faded away, because I have no memory of that. Now i read about the hooded figures in the "old Hag" tales, and I wonder if that's what it was. Only happened once, and only when I was separated from my family. (I was in foster care) Hmmmmmmm. makes ya wonder. I do believe that there is "Something" but I don't think all of them mean to harm.

Hey FTU

That's really quite a startling tale.

Many would agree with you - that there is certainly 'something' betwixt and between the 'here and now' and the 'there and eternity'.

I think it's important that we keep an open mind to all considerations.

Thanks for dropping by.
