Great Hangover Cures - What's Yours?
September 3rd 2007 03:11
While very few of us probably covet the thought of traipsing into the office on a Monday morning – those who do should be thankful of two things: 1. You have a job and 2. You aren’t suffering from a hangover!
Without going into detail – the hangover (one of the great weekend traditions of our time) – has been examined in detail by men (and women) far better versed in the science of chemistry than I – yet I’ve yet to bear witness to a compelling cure-all.
From Berocca’s to Coke, coffee to cold pizza – I’ve heard a few – but in the name of research – would appreciate any input out there as to your favourite/most effective home remedy.
All replies gratefully received - just don't respond with CAPS LOCK on - I need a little quiet time. . . .

Aside from that, a milkshake with an egg in it does wonders if followed by a nice greasy milk bar hamburger, dont know why but it always seemed to work for me.

Perhaps I should cut to the chase and just blend the milkshake, egg and hamburger then skull.

I feel for you, a hangover on a Monday...that's rough.
Unfortunately I'm an old fart now that hardly drinks anymore because I get the most evil pre-hangovers....i.e. I spend most of the night in the loo being sick, so I get no sleep and can't eat for the whole day afterwards. It's a pity though as I love that invincible feeling I get after a few vodkas, but it doesn't last....it soon moves into nausea....
I hope you feel better soon, I think sleep and quietness is the only thing that works...oh and moaning a lot,
Byee
PS I whispered all this so that it wouldn’t hurt your head.
PPS I'm not working either....I'm not sure whether to feel grateful or not....hmmmm...ah well, I can think about it later....

Oh a hangover on a Monday is an evil thing.
My sure-fire cures depend on the symptoms.
- if vomiting is an issue (I'm one of those people who vomit the next day....uuggghhh!). Soda water is the stuff of miracles. Will stop the vomiting within minutes.
- if it's just a general feeling crap kind of hangover, it's to McDonalds I go (provided I'm sober enough to drive) for a large coke.....I've been known to buy 2 or 3 and their fries. Grease and sugar, what a combo!!!
Then I lay on the couch for the rest of the day watching comedies that require very little thinking and feel sorry for myself!
Hope you feel better soon!

Macca's huh! I'll take any advice at this point - may need to soda water after the 3 servings of fries though.

There appears to be a common thread here - not the least that you've all had enough hangovers to know what does and doesn't work

I suppose the best cure of all is not to drink...but that would be boring....
I swear to you... I don't get hangovers. I certainly do not drink as much as I used to when I was younger (and had a faster metabolism) but even then...no.
I read this in a magazine when I was
1618, that alcohol dehydrates the body and a hangover is a result of the body being starved of moisture...so regardless of howdrunktired I am...I drink as much water as possible before Icollapsego to sleep...and if the ceiling is spinning...keep one foot on the floor...a bit hard if you've got a high bed...Et voila. Slightly seedy but fully functional the next day.
Hope you're feeling better...

Feeling a whole lot better for the support at least.
Genuinely appreciate your concern and suggestions.
Now as for that Wallabies coaching job I saw advertised over the weekend . . . .

Also take the time to experiment with alcohol. Try every combination of beer, wine and spirits to find the one that works for you. This caused me to spend Christmas two years ago on the floor of my grandmother's bathroom, but have now learned that creme de menthe is not for me. It was a valuable lesson. If I stick to reisling I am always AOK the next day.
Mind you, I am still compelled by the need to test every variety of liquor in sight from time to time.

Creme de menthe - gosh - even though I'm feeling a whole lot better this morning - the thought knocks me back a few pegs.

Re-hydrating with a litle H2O seems to have everyone's seal of approval - other than my good friend JD - who advocates an on-going rehydration/blood-alcohol program.
Thanks for stopping by.

Well I just happen to catch Oprah last week and some doctor dude was on and he said that water was important, but to take an aspirin before you go to bed because aspirin is an anti-inflammatory and that helps the liver and for breakfast the next morning to have eggs because the yolk has something in it that helps hangovers/nausea.
So next time I go on a bender I'm going to try it and I'll let you know how it works
Love & stuff
