Your Guiltiest Musical Pleasure

October 24th 2007 22:30
OK – hands up who readily admits to actually liking Barry Manilow and ‘Mandy’?

Hands up those who can honestly say they’ve danced along to Peter Allen’s ‘Copacabana’.

Alright then – what about ABBA? Devo? Christopher Cross? The Nolan Sisters?

Come on - we’ve all got them – hidden musical skeletons tucked away in our closets – to which we never admit – well not publicly anyway.

Celine Dion, Jennifer Rush, Chris de Burgh, Michael Bolton, Billy Ray Cyrus – be brave – speak out – release the pent up anxiety that’s inside and reveal to the world your daggiest musical pleasure/s.

Lambasted for years for being a Bee Gees fan – I readily admit that I had a thing for that Styx song 'Babe' – don’t ask – but while I’m at it, The Popcorn song also found its way on continual look in my mind for a while there too.

Maybe The Wind Beneath My Wings put a glisten in your eye or Stevie Wonder's – 'I Just called to Say . . . ' ouch – STOP!

Remember, you're among friends and won’t be judged – promise.

Laughed at - sure - but never judged.

Share the love.

MNG,

My friends frquently poke fun at me for knowing every word to every Meatloaf song, and for singing along to them earnestly every time I'm let loose near a jukebox with a bottle of sav blanc.

Terrible, but true. I can't get enough.

Oh, I so abbasolutely agree with you. I love everything old and daggy. Waterloo was with me when I entered my teens, Knowing Me, Knowing You when I busted up with my first real boyfriend, the list goes on - just like the songs really- forever alive in the heart of this dag.

We've got Meat on both of the jukeboxes at home - so regardless of whether your friends want to join you or not - you're always welcome to sing along with the Family Von Nice Guy's.

Might even find a few Sound of Music tracks to play to boot.

Cheers

I LOVE bad/tragic music almost as much as I love bad movies. Amongst my cd collection are the following gems:
- Paula Abdul - hey? Opposite really do attract you know?
- Peter Cetera - the glory of love baby, the glory of love!! Also, his song Daddy's Girl....awesome!!!!!
- Meatloaf - the Loaf is THE MAN!! Bat Out of Hell is chock full of musical gems!!
- Neil Diamond - who doesn't love Neil???? Who??
-Abba - though they're so daggy that they're pretty cool these days

and the piece de resistance...............drum roll please.....................

THE VERY BEST OF DAVID HASSELHOFF. Not just The Best of, but the very best of. Bought it for $4.99, and it was worth every penny. Every song is worse than the one that comes before it It's AWESOME!!! It even has the song I've Been Looking for Freedom, which of course you know he sang on the Berlin Wall as they pulled it down.

Cool can't hold a candle to tragic.

I like to f**k with people's minds and insert my most tragic cd's in amongst my 'good' music. So you get The Pixies, Arctic Monkeys, Paula Abdul, Bloc Party, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, David Hasselhoff and then wait and see if anyone says anything.

Small things really do amuse tiny minds.....

erg... I quite like Sean Paul's 'Temperature' though it's a little over the top. Also, 'Venus' by Bananarama. Have you seen the video?

The whole "I'm Your Venus' thang is now playing on loop in my mind.

As for the video clip - I think I've wiped this from my mind - though I suspect I'll be forced to take a look just to refresh my memory.

Thanks as always for boarding the good ship NG.

I must admit I'm a huge Roxette fan. Come on, she was the second best thing to come out of the 80's after myself.

What an admission!

I'd wiped Roxette from my mind altogether - if nothing else thanks for rekindling a few kitche memories of a girl I was going out with at the time - who surprisingly was also a bit of Roxette fan - nuff said.

Cheers and thanks for stopping by
