It's all about me today . . . yeah right!
November 30th 2008 23:47
Self indulgent . . . self centred and all about me . . . isn’t that allowed on your birthday?
Folks – it’s officially the first day of summer in these environs – when thoughts turn to barbecues, the beach, and the delights of savouring stone fruit, mangoes and cheese platters as we devour the company of other like minded laid back seasonal beasts.
But it’s also my birthday – which probably explains my penchant for The Beach Boys, the surf, flippant summer-time sporting and leisure pursuits and non-ratings television.
OK - so the summers aren't as long or as hot as they used to be when I was running around dodging bindi-eye running up and down under the sprinkler.
. . . and perhaps I can't still get away with climbing trees to catch that elusive cicada . . .
But at least the weather gods have at least put on a reasonable day.
Yes – we all have em – some we care to acknowledge and some we choose to sweep under the rug – but it’s still great to receive that heart-felt salutation –
Now if you’ll excuse me – I’m off to celebrate with fellow birthday celebrants, Bette Midler, Woody Allen and Lee Trevino.

Thanks - nice guys are thin on the ground - you're definiately one of them - and yes it's lovely and sunny - can't wait for the obligatory TV news shot tonight proclaiming the first day of summer in Sydney . . . imagainative lot TV execs.
Another year wiser or cynical I guess.

Now MNG,
those three have something in common, wood!
Allen has wood in his name, and some say FAR too much in his pants...ahem!
Lee Trevino plays with a wood golf club.
And, Bette Midler (whom I adore and saw perform in Brisbane two years or so ago) Bette just likes a bit of WOOD!!
So, MNG, it does leave one wondering...
cheers

P.S. Now will click on the singing animals B'Day card adverts for you!

You're right - it's a lovely sunny day.

Imaginative lot these TV execs - huh?
Another year wiser or cynical I guess.

It's nice to be made feel special . . . even if its only for a day.
Guess I'm super lucky . . . given the Family Von Nice Guy singers led by the always smiling Mrs NG delivers bountiful laughs and love 365 days a year.
. . . as for the Nice Guy Labradors - well they only love me when there's food to be had

Don't think I want to go there . . . then again - perhaps I should go down the 'Wood've been if I Could've been" line . . .
Ouch - that was neither clever or funny . . .

Thank you. I'm always treated well by the Nice Guy Harem - so I guess I'm spoilt every day.
If only we could celebrate becoming wiser rather than just getting older . . .

Oddly it was 65 degrees here in Tulsa for your birthday too. Odd considering it has been the only day to get above 50 in the past two weeks. Someone must have known.
As I write this "Fortunate Son" came on the radio. Appropriate since it sounds like you are the fortunate one with the Family Von Nice Guy surrounding you.
One last note about your fellow birthday mates - I don't really think a party with both Bette and Woody would be much fun. the day is bound to be marred by Wind Beneath My Wings being done in sing-a-long fashion. Now, picture Woody singing it!
Again, Happy Birthday even if it is a few days late.
