If I Could Live In Any City It Would Be . . .?

April 7th 2009 20:28
London
Twelve months ago today I was enjoying all the delights Los Angeles had to offer - from its wonderfully colourful people to checking out the Angels play the Indians at Anaheim Stadium!

LA is Sydney's big sister on so many levels - and a place where nothing suprises.

From the glitz of Universal Studios to Disneyland in Orange County to Muscle Beach - it is a potpourie of everything you either love or hate about America.

Of course the itinery also encompassed San Francisco, San Diego, Tijuana, Las Vegas and Honolulu - each with something very special to offer.

But whether it's Stateside, Europe, the sub-Continent, South America or the Pacific - most would say there's no place like home - or is there?

Given the opportunity to share your allegiances between 'home' and a surrogate city for 6 months a year - where would you hang your hat?

London? Paris? New York? Tokyo? Dhaka?

Jerusalem for me, MNG. I'd go out looking for God's footprints.

Nowhere commercial like LA. Although I'd like to see silicon valley where they make all the breast implants.

Frankly, I'm a Sydney girl. I was born and bred here and my family and most of my friends are in Sydney. I love visiting other cities and even lived in London for over three years, but I always call Sydney home. The weather suits me and so does the lifestyle.

I don't know where I'd live... I'd hate to dream about a city and then be disappointed when I got there.

I've got an eye for Tokyo - just to visit, mind - but I'm excited to go to a city that produces so much technology and so much sheer weirdness...

Quebec City for me MNG! It's my favourite city in the world, its the only walled city in North America, and you can walk around the perimeter of the old city atop the actual wall.... the people are really lovely and there is just so much to explore -sigh- I need a holiday hehe

LHM - Silicon as in silicon chips for computers, you uneducated weirdo!

MNG - San Francisco or Barcelona out of the places I have been, Copenhagen and New York City out of the places I haven't.

I can hear Peter Allen singing right now . . . "I Still Call Australia . . . "

We're not too badly off are we!

Cheers - enjoy today's sunshine and happy Easter

Never been to Tokyo - but it would be a real mind bender I'd imagine.

Have a Japanese friend from Osaka that I've known for the better part of 25 years or so - and who has come out and stayed with our family every year for the past 16 or 17 who thinks Sydney is just the 'ants pants' - so perhaps no matter where - the grass is always greener.

Cheers

New York is crazy! Went there years ago - and talk about Sydney on 'Droids'.

Frenetic pace, colour, buzz - I remember thinking to myself at the time - that you could genuinely live your entire life in that city and never feel like you've wanted for experience.

I hope you get there one day - it will be worth it.

Never done Quebec - in fact the closest I've been in BC and Calgary - so can't really comment other than to say that the Canadian people have so much in common with Aussies - that there is a strange kinda bond (and not only because of our unique love for America).

Stay well this Easter

Ain't SF great!

The archectiture and all the burrows really excited me.

From hanging out the side of cable cars to Alcatraz to watching the mist roll in out of nowhere over the Bay - oh - and Fisherman's Wharf and the multitude of sea-lions - yep - it's a keeper for sure.

Mr. Nice Guy, I'm a layback person and I would like to live at Bergen, Norway if I giving a chance to do so. Bergen is a nice city with breathtaking scenery and I won't care to spend my life at there!

Hey Wilson Pon

Wow! Never been to Norway - or any of Scandinavia for that matter - sounds like the place to be!

Cheers
