Vinyl or ipod?
September 8th 2007 21:19
Ya know - I readily admit that I listen to my ipod (and CD's) as much for convenience as the sheer joy of the music itself - but when it comes to just plain chillin' and actually feelin cool about it - nothing beats vinyl.
There's just something about the whole turntable thing - which is a microcosim of the today vs yesterday debate - which is starting the transend the generations at present.
ipods vs vinyl, checkers vs chess, fast food vs a baked dinner, email vs a personally handwritten missive - each has their place - when when it comes to taken time out for yourself and escaping the increasingnly frantic pace of today - I'll plump for the second option every time.
It's Sunday morning vs board room meetings - in my world there's very few pleasures that can beat the sense of escapism at home than sitting back in your favourite chair, closing your eyes and hearing that initial crackle of the album as the diamond head of the arm takes you to places only you can go.
It's rareified air.
I'm off to enjoy . . .

My kids have grown up in the era of CD's so they don't understand why they can't dance when I play my LP's.
The young have no idea....
Love & stuff

I have a massive vinyl collection and I agree that there is nothing like chillin to a beloved record on the turntable. I love the pops and crackles of a well loved record. Great question btw

Ya know - I'm pretty fortunate to have a juke at my place - and its amazing how many adults (and kids) think its just soooo cool to make their selection and listen to everything from Sam Cooke through to Donna Summer, KISS, The Beatles, The Eagles - even the 4 Seasons.
And you know I put it to all our family and friends - 'when was the last time people came round to your place just to listen to your CD's?'
It's a pretty compelling argument.
Thanks for your support and calling on by.

So many of us appear to have been separated by birth - huh. While it's not an addiction - still have around 250 albums and close to 1000 45's - which I've managed to pick up at sales over the years just to fill the jukebox and keep everyone bopping along to tunes from the 50, 60's, 70's and some 80's.
Always great to hear from you.
