Does Anyone Remember Prince Planet?
April 23rd 2009 03:29
Of all the cartoon superhero's - Prince Planet was my absolute favourite.
Prompted by a great post at the Back to the Eighties site Click to go here it got me thinking about some of the 'lesser' cartoon heroes.
Marine Boy, with his trusty dolphin friend Splasher and of course his electric boomerang, the amazing Gigantor with Jimmy Sparks and of course Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot.
All Japanese animations - and all iconic, even though they probably haven't enjoyed the longevity of Astro himself.
But favourites are favourites - and I still recall my mother cutting a lenght of knitting wool around the pieced lid of a pickle jar and drawing a giant P on the inside of my 'power pendant' as I 'flew' up and down the yard complete with dog in tow - no doubt reluctantly playing the role of the villian.
Yep - Prince Planet still stands at the top of great heap of animated superheroes - but does anyone else remember him, or any others?

Ah - from the time when if you had a television you were doing OK and when milk was home delivered in real glass bottles.
Yep - must've been around 100 or more years ago now.

I used to watch this cartoon in my friend's house and if I'm not wrong, it's one of the earliest Japanese anime series. My friend, Tommy who is a cartoon freak, told me that this cartoon has a Japanese name, "Yūsei Shōnen Papī" and it's on air in 1965! (Which means, next year would be the 40th anniversary of this retro anime, Mr.Nice Guy!)
Correct me, if I'm wrong here!

40th?
Wouldn't it be the 45th annivsary if it kicked off in 1965?
A classic, no matter what it's birthdate.
Cheers
