The Best Children's Films . . . . Ever!
August 8th 2011 20:39
It’s never easy picking the Top of anything, but choosing the best kids’ films from a 'grown up's perspective is, well nigh impossible.
Do you gauge things by pure entertainment value - the looks on the faces of children or do you take the technical aspect and dissect them from start to finish?
Setting out parameters is tricky.
In my mind children's films preclude the likes of The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Avatar - so in effect I guess I'm talking kids under say 12 years of age.
Then there's the animation vs drama themes, the comedy and the pseudo musical - it's hard work!
So in view of the huffs I'm sure I'll receive thought I would at least pen 10 films I see as the best kids offering of all time and see what everyone else thinks.
In no particular order:
* The Wizard of Oz
* Fantasia
* ET
* Toy Story
* Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
* Snow White
* The Jungle Book
* The Lion King
* Back to the Future
* Harry Potter 1
There - told you it was tough!

Great list with ET my clear standout. Not sure what kids today would think of the old films but for me the list would be incomplete without The Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story and possibly The Navigator.
For more recent fare The Incredibles is a must.
And great timing for this article with it being Stand by Me's 25th Anniversary!

Whether it's the olde worlde nature of the films or the relatively uncomplicated storylines I'm not sure - but it seems age is no barrier when it comes to quality.
. . . and had no idea it was the 25th anniversary of Stand By Me - but then again you are the oracle!
