Things I Have Learned The Hard Way

February 26th 2008 03:36
When you're a kid, there are just 'things' you get told 'not to do'.

"Don't put your hand in the dog's mouth".

"Don't touch the iron".

"Don't stick anything in that socket".

"Don't go cross eyed or when the wind changes - you'll stay like that".

But what have you learned the hard way?

Perhaps despite everyone's best efforts you needed first hand experience of the pitfalls life offered - and later regretted it.

Or did fate have a hand in finding you and you finding it?

Would love to hear your tale of woe.

If a realationship is not working out -- end it. Don't waste your life thinking it will improve.

That cats can be temperamental (you should see the bites and scratches on my hand!)

Always been a bit of a dog person myself - guess I just don't have the time for tempermental felines - particularly those displaying a my way or the highway attitude.

To each his/her own though.

No matter how articulate it sounds, or how logical your arguments may be, you will NEVER get out of a fine by writing a letter- angry or otherwise.

Actually - in NSW at least - if you have a clean driving record and you admit fault at your first offence (provided you didn't plow through a shopping centre of course) - then the RTA will generally apply leniency and let you off with a warning.

Guess that a life lesson I've learned that was positive.

Ooopps - did I say something I shouldn't have?

Hmm...that if you don't just attack a steep ski slope...it will attack you back.

Ouch.

Oh...and that chocolate doesn't metabolise as fast, the older you get...sigh...

Hope all is well with you and yours MNG...

Always thought absence makes the heart grow fonder - NOPE - I learned the hard way: out of sight out of mind....

WEAR SUNSCREEN! I want to go back to when I was sixteen and slap (and slip and slop) me silly for deliberately lying about in a bikini, tanning for hours on end, without a care in the world!

It took second degree burns, sunstroke and skin damage to teach me that lesson, however many times I was warned.

Oh, and don't mix drinks if you are having more than a few!

saying too much is sometimes better then not syaing anything at all. dont go your whole life wondering what if...

theres a time and a place for show of emotion...

if a relationship didnt work the 1st time, or 2nd time, most likely its not going to work the 4th or 5th. so dont waste your time.

absense can make the heart grow fonder, just depends on where the absense is.

I concur.

A cruciate and medial episode which put me out of action for almost three months is testament to your words hard earned wisdom.

. . . . all's well - and thanks for asking.

Yep - it's a roll of the dice sometimes huh?

What's meant to be is generally meant to be though.

Stay well.

I sometimes think about all those girls I went to high school with that would lie on the beach wearing little more than baby oil and a smile.

Leather is attractive but not when it walks.

Some of us walk a fine line.

Then again some of us just jump right in and to hell with the consequences.

It's a judgement call.
