Who Died Before Their Time?
May 13th 2010 04:04
It's a pretty simply question - but putting your finger on who (from the modern era) exactly had more than most to offer in a life cut short is pretty damned tough.
Some would point to JFK - others perhaps to John Lennon, some even to James Dean - all worthy nominees - but would they be your choice?
Marvin Gaye, Freddie Mercury and Jimmy Hendrix all left this earth before their time, but they’d each already made a masterpiece.
Marilyn Monroe, Heath Ledger and Brandon Lee would also proabably recieve a few votes, while Ayrton Senna, Michael Jackson, Princess Grace and Lady Di would probably rate.
But who, in your opinion have we mourned that had so much more to offer the world?

Also Lady Di's ranks as one of the largest I can think of. Also special mention to a young actor I thought had way more to offer the world. Brad Renfro had a very sad and lonely death from overdose around the same time as Heath Ledger - yet it hardly registered a blip on the scale of things and Renfro was never mentioned in the list of people had passed away at the Oscars. Renfro started as a young kid in The Client and then starred in films such as Bully, Sleepers, (my fave) Apt Pupil and died while filming Bret Easton Ellis's story directed by Gregor Jordan, The Informers.

I'm with jason on Brad Renfro.River Phoenix would have continued to impress too. Never saw the big deal with Lady Di.
For me: John Cazale and Charlie Parker would rank very highly.
Obviously Jimmy Dean, Janis, Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Bon Scott etc deserve respect too.

Can't say I cried when I heard the news about River Phoenix - but it was certainly a great loss and I guess we'll never know the true extent of what he had to offer.
Naturally Lady Di's demise was almost surreal - and ranks as one of those handful of 'where were you when' moments for sure!

Glad to see you mentioned Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison. All three including Scott were timebombs just waiting for the right detonator through.
All tremendous losses to the industry - but all deserving of their place in history - along with the likes of Buddy Holly and of course The King.

Some people should never be let out onto an unsuspecting world.
