20 Things You Should Do Before You're 40
September 20th 2009 21:30
You hear it all the time.
Such and such is having a 'mid-life' or 'I wish I had done that when I was younger'.
Some of us relish new and exciting challenges. Meeting new people. Experiencing new pursuits.
Some of course are happy with a little more order, structure and routine in their lives while keeping good friends close and tried and proven lifestyle pursuits a part of their world.
But what are some of the things you should 'try' before you're 40.
I'm not talking elicit or immoral - but life experiences that you can relate to your kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. The experiences that help make your being just that little more holistic.
Would love to hear what you have to say.

Are you a disciple of the sport? When did you try it? What was it like?

Haven't done skydiving (as it appears Jason has - all a little unnervingly strange to want to defy instinct and jump out of a plane really) - but have had a lesson in an aircraft - which was a real buzz.

Better than sex - HONESTLY
I am petrified of heights but for some reason it does not effect me on planes, get me on a ladder and I crap myself
I took a friend for his 21st present and insisted I go first incase I chicken out. I went tandem and I just sat on the edge of the plane with my legs outside and a camera man hanging onto the edge of the plane. We then lept and the cool thing - we spun around and I watched the plane depart - that was very weird.
Then you hit phenomenal speeds and you scream your heart out with joy and freedom. This goes for about 45 secs, and then they pull the cord and everything turns to complete silence floating above everything. We did it at Woolongong so we were over the beach with ocean on one side and green fields on the other - best thrill ever. As soon as I landed I was begging them to take me back up. I even looked at getting my own licence to do it but it was too expensive and I chose my passion for skiing over jumping out of planes

PS: Scream as loud as you can, and don't hold back of it, when you're playing the bungee jump!

2. walk across the harbour bridge - not scaling the frame, just walk on the footpath at street level
3. wear false eyelashes
4. shoot a rifle
5. kidnap a b-grade celebrity
6. public speaking
7. pick up a hitch-hiker - not a scary one, and not at night
im starting to get into weird illegal/dangerous territory so i might just stop

Ya know - from the sanctity of the ground - I don't feel as if I would have any drama with jumping from a plane - but the bungee - now there's something I'd really have to gee myself up for.
Cheers

Numbers 5 and 7 could well be combined - particularly if you're talking about judges on Dancing with the Stars . . .

Interesting maths for you: If you plan on skydiving more than 3 or 4 times in the rest of your life, solo license is definitely the way to go. It costs between 300-500 dollars for one tandem jump, a solo license costs between 1000-2000 dollars, and every solo jump costs only 15-25 dollars.

Sounds like you're hooked!
I suspect that once you have your solo licence you still need to pay for air time and fuel plus the chute - which is what I guess takes up the coin.
