Which Movie Have You Watched The Most?
January 13th 2008 21:23
On Saturday night, my three daughters sat me down and insisted that I 'chill'.
The best way to do that they said was to surround ourselves with pillows, a bag of popcorn each and watch "Grease".
Now - while it wasn't the first thing to come to mind - I have to admit - I wasn't adverse to the suggestion.
Afterall, it's a family favourite and one I would have genuinely seen more than 100 times over the years.
Of course, when I sheepishly mentioned my downtime viewing to friends on Sunday - I was suprised at the response.
Seems everyone had a favourite movie they'd watched more than a few times - ranging from Sound of Music to Legally Blonde.
So, in the interests of my own sanity (and to prove that you can never get too much of a good thing) - which movie have you watched the most?

A very happy new year to you!
In my hey day, 'Notting Hill' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' were my bog-standard chick flicks and a MUST on a Sunday morning with a hangover........these days of course I must add 'Bear in the Big Blue House' and 'Jo-Jo's Circus' to that list!!

As an adult I saw Pulp Fiction twice in one day, that was unprecendented (saw it a third time a few weeks later, but it wasn't as potent).
But the movie I've seen the most times, including all the times on VHS and DVD would have to be Blade Runner, which is my fave film. Not sure exactly how many times I've seen it. Not a ridiculous amount though, under twenty times I'd say. Star Wars comes a close second, with Withnail and I and Alien not far behind.
But it's all speculation, I don't keep count. All I know is that those four movies I've seen numerous times.

You can watch it over and over and still pick up funny bits you missed before. Great film.
Also the Back to the Future movies. Plain good fun.
(Got a Christopher Lloyd theme happening? Just coincidental.)

Actually Grease would have to be up there too. Though it's not a favourite, the fact is I've probably seen it at least 20 times.

Today I would say Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Dawn of the Dead and Hellraiser 2. I've watched them many times over the past few years now.

I have seen too many times, as I see myself as the lead character, so when the shoe fits as he is a young writer as am I.

Four Weddings did nothing for me to be honest - but Notting Hill - I quite enjoyed. Guess it has something to do with the whole 'chick flick' thing really.
As for Bear in A Big Blue House - now you're talking

Possibly one of my favourite Harrison Ford movies to be brutally frank.
. . . what no chick flicks?

Animation leaves me a little cold as far these things go - but Roger Rabbit wasn't too bad.
I agree wholeheartedly with you on the Back To the Future trilogy though.
The concept itself is illuminating huh?

Ghostbusters is a classic in its own right - more for its timing than anything else I'd suggest - but hey - timing is everything.
Who you gonna call . . . ?

Don't you just love Sandra Bullock?
We've watched Speed a few times now - and yeah, the suspense is great - but I never get tired of watching her on the big screen.
As for Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - well dude . . .

Like Bryn - no chick flicks - huh?
I can see a theme developing in your viewing habits here.
In essence though a couple of qualified choices.
Well done.

I generally cannot be watch a movie more than once, but there are a handful I adore and almost know off by heart: Grease is one of them. But my ALL TIME BEST MOVIE EVER is The Big Lebowski by the Coen Brothers, with Jeff Bridges and my secret crush John Goodman.
Great question,
Jo

We put it on during our Halloween Party AKA my husband's 51st birthday party. It was a riot, everyone young and old loved it.
All us old timers were quoting lines from it all night long. What a bunch of NERDS!!!!

By the way - speaking of Nerds - you may be interested in a post coming up Thursday perhaps?

Let me see, I think I am going to have to go with the Star Wars/Indiana Jones 'group' at about 20 viewings a piece...
then perhaps add Batman to the mix;
but not before adding in some chick flicks like
French Kiss (about 15 times),
Under a Tuscan Sun (6 times),
Addicted to Love (about eight times),
Suddenly 30 (about 5 times) and
Chocolat (about 7 times),
Bridget Jones about 6 times.
The Wedding Planner about four times
PIrates of the Carribean has spun around a few times too, as has Back to the Future and Timeline (five times).
I've watched Casino Royale five times, but perhaps the most watched film of this decade for me has been National Treasure (about 22 times).
I just love that film, I think Nick Cage makes off-beat intelligent films.

Film & TV on DVD
Raiders of the Lost Ark was a close second maybe 20 times.
I worked at the London Odeon multiplex for a while when I was travelling. Had to have seen Heat, Dead Presidents, Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn over 20 times each.
Over the years Blade Runner has been viewed a good 15 times on the bigscreen. They used to have a midnight screening every Saturday at the Orpheum. It became a bit of a regular thing like The Blues Brothers (maybe 20 times on the big screen) on a Friday night at Hoyts.
Reservoir Dogs I saw 3 times in one day and overall watched it 12 times at the movies.
That's enough exposing my all consuming obsession even more....I refuse to talk about DVD and video screenings....then the Star Wars number skyrockets into possible triple digits along with many other childhood favourites.
Thanks for that MNG

Like most...Star Wars originial trilogy and Indiana Jones. Too many times to keep count.
All these are pretty high up there;
'Usual Suspects'
'Contact'
'Fifth Element'
'League of Their Own'
'Long Kiss Goodnight'
'LA Confidential'
'The Last Starfighter'
'12 Monkeys'
'A Fish Called Wanda'
'Flying High'
'Die Hard'
'Unbreakable'
'Dark City'...
Sometimes, just certain scenes of some films... like in LOTR whenever Legolas does his 'thing'...eg. in the 'Two Towers', at the start when he does a wicked trick of shooting an arrow then jumping on the horse to sit behind Gimli...and when Aragon slams open the doors at Rohan...ouch...
'Batman Begins'...whenever Bale does his Bat thing.
'Rocky 3'...Rocky telling Clubber Lang he's not so bad...
'Kill Bill Vol1'...when the Bride goes after O-ren Ishii.
'Matrix'...when Neo learns kungfu; when Neo and Trinity rescue Morpheus; when Neo finally sees that he the One.
..and I could watch 'Suddenly 30' over and over again too Lilla! I love Jennifer Garner! Likewise 'Big' and 'Splash'.
Okay...I'm done...hope you're well MNG...

Sounds good to me.
I remembered another I often drag out and re-watch too : Backdraft I'll bring it along...
Dusk,
Hey ...wow, I forgot the Fitfth Element and the Matrix... yeah about ten times each... did you know (my daughter tells me) that the Fifth Element was written by a 15 year-old teenager?
Neo : 'I know Kung Fu"
((laughs)) and that scene in the restaurant when he fights the Oracle's guard... like some tribal masculine ballet ... just beautiful.
I must get Dark City, everyone is raving about it?
