Forgotten Gems of the 80's
May 4th 2010 05:42
So what if '80s pop music fans are forced to realize that our heroes are aging!
So what if members of A Flock of Seagulls, Los Lobos or Laura Branigan are now working as kitchen hands in some dingy two-bit cafe!
If the names Juice Newton, A-Ha or Wang Chung brings mirth to today's youth . . . bah humbug . . .
For we are keepers of the holy 80s grail of hits (and misses) which graced our music charts for the decade which signalled the birth of MTV, the Compact Disc and truly awful fashion.
It signaled the death of many legendary 70s bands and of course disco - only to have surface the likes of Wham, Devo and Duran Duran.
New supergroups such as, U2, INXS, Bon Jovi and The Police were establishing themselves while wannabee groups such as REO Speedwagon and Tears for Fears found their 15 mins of fame before time and taste took control.
But amid all the Choose Life T-shirts, leg-warmers and shoulder pads there were some truly forgotten musical gems from bands such as 38 Special, Psychadelic Furs, The Motels and Level 42.
Perhaps not all household chart favourites but forgotten gems all the same.
So whether yours is something by Naked Eyes or an obscure release by Robbie Neville - I'd love to hear about it.
